Honestly I wish that the US had treated the Philippines much better after WWII than we did. I don't think there was a good reason why we couldn't bring Filipinos to the table as more equal like the US did with Guam, NMI, PR, and the USVI. I think it would have been good for the Philippines if you had stayed with us. So many Filipinos live here already that you might as well be one of our states, like it could have been 50 years ago

The Philippines wanted independence. I guess economically, it would have been better. Filipinos were so proud, as if they could really do it well on their own but they were really wrong. It just made the rich become more rich.
The similarity between Filipino and Mexican are all due to their culture which given by the Spanish.
Without this cultural ties, Filipino and Mexican have nothing related to each other.
Mien, Do you know anything about Filipino and Mexican history ????
Stop saying something you know nothing about.
Philippines was under Mexican rule for 250 years during the Spanish colonial time . During 250 years of Mexican governance of the Philippines, there were a lot if cultural exchanges between Filipinos and Mexicans.
So some of the Filipino culture were Mexican influence not Spanish, same goes with Mexico.

And that happened because of the Spanish came in, right? If the Spanish didn't come in at all, there will be no way for Filipino to connect with Mexican.
Filipino would most likely connect with their Austronesian brothers like Malaysian and Indonesian instead.

there wouldn't be a country. Maybe the Southern part would be part of Malaysia or Indonesia. Maybe the top half would be part of Taiwan. Who knows

I agree. As The Philippines is made up of islands so for sure some would have been claimed by Malaysia or even China as they like to claim places. Glad Spain came and took control and made the Philippines what it is today.
