Public road = putting other people at risk. You want to do that a on a private track then it's your business. Also, on a track you'd have more controlled safer conditions...roll cage/run off areas ect.

According to the local news, LA news, the site of the fatality occurred in an area that is well known by local "street racers" as an area where people drift and race (many people in the area made statements as to this). The fatality occurred on Hercules Street at Kelly Johnson Parkway in Valencia. A search on google maps may give everyone an idea of what was going on.
The authorities already stated that speed was a factor in these fatalities (meaning, they were driving at an unreasonable rate of speed). I'm going to throw out the assumption that they weren't just going 55 in a 45 mph speed zone but a lot faster than that (just because someone drives over the speed limit does not mean that they are driving at an unreasonable rate of speed).
People can blame the car and point out all of its weaknesses as a factor in the deaths but at the end of the day, it does seem like they were driving in a reckless manner that caused them to lose control of the vehicle. I know this has been repeated, but this is not a racetrack. This is a city street with obstructions and conditions that elevate the level of danger beyond that what a race track would have (possible pedestrians, motorists driving in the opposite direction, trees, traffic signs, and lets not forget the elevated sidewalks).

I liked Paul Walker and his F&F movies (cheesy as they may have been at times). Outside of his movies he seemed like a great guy and it sucks that someone like him passes away. But lets not ignore the main factors that probably played a key role in his and Rodas' deaths.

90% of the reason someone has a car like the Carrera GT is to impress others... Problem is they were screwing around and probably done few times before that as well. This time luck wasnt on their side.

Absolutely shocking aftermath. You can't even tell it was a car.

RIP Paul. Seemed like a good guy.

Kids watch those movies and don't really get that driving like that is dangerous. Maybe this horrible tragedy will slow some of them down. RIP.

Driving in any way can be dangerous. I knew that the first time I sit in the driver seat of a vehicle.

Because I am older, I was not real familiar with him, especially since the Fast and Furious movies don't appeal to me. But when my Sons heard of his passing they were very upset, and said they liked him a lot.

Sorry to see him pass so early in his life in such a terrible way.
