Works the same way, only reversed. If you see a ship at night, if you see a green light on its left (relative to your vantage point) and a red light on its right, that means it's coming towards you. If you see a red light on its left and a green light on its right, that means it's going away from you.

And if you see neither, that means that it had red turn signals and you couldn't tell if it was turning or stopping before it ran you over!

Whats the sense od debating this the automakers are not going to change anything unless the US Govt mandates it and even then the automakers can tie it up in the courts forever because they lave the money and powerful lawyers and political allies on there side.

This is like the amber turn signals whine.

There is no law against it. European and Japanese automakers can do it if they want to, just as they can ship over cars with amber rear turn signals (some do, some don't--even within the same manufacturer, some models do, some don't).

If it's such a good idea, they can do it and advertise it as an increased safety factor, the way they do with cars that stop themselves and other things.

^^ On average, don't you guys see more amber rear turn signals than red ones'? I think I see like 65% amber, 35% red. Most vehicles do amber turn signals I believe...

Like many, you have some strange beliefs.

I see more red than amber, but there isn't any reason all imported cars don't sport them. I can't believe any manufacturer did a market study that showed one model would sell better with amber lights and another would not.

Yeah. I live in an area which likely has the 2nd or 3rd highest concentration of non-US vehicles, mostly Japanese makes, in the country and seeing amber turn signals is jarring when you do see them.

Why jarring?

I first had that amber tail light discussion with a European 'way back in '88. I really can't see the issue one way or another. Is that all anyone has to get upset about?

Not upset, I guess jarring isn't the word. Maybe surprised to see it, or it might be for me, the hue just triggers the brain receptors.

I don't have a dog in the fight, I just dislike "all just because" statements.
