The corvette does not have a manual door release? That sounds like a serious design flaw to me.

It does, it's just on the floor, if you didn't know it there you would miss it

I would assume only cars that don't have a mechanical handle on the door would have an emergency backup. Check your owners manual to find out if your car has one.
