I live in one of the most conservative areas in the country, and I can assure you, they are illegal.

Most of the hicks around here are up in arms about it. I say it should have happened sooner. Nobody has a right to blind or distract somebody on a public street.

New headlight law goes into effect New Year's Day in Tennessee | WTVC

I'm all about a nice big huge Yukon Denali, though and am all about nice, large trucks and SUVs. Not much of a Ford guy, though. I still have nightmares about my old 93 SHO (first car). I had to manually screw the door jacks in so I wouldn't fall out while driving.

But what I can’t figure out is why in today’s world they still suck a$$ in mpg’s? One would think that if MPG’s are a major hurdle for a potential buyer, that this segment would be front and center for the hybrid platform while not making look like a hybrid. Just doesn’t seem to be major priority I guess.
There are limitations of physics. A large, upright vehicle is going to have a high drag-coefficient and large cross-sectional area. This means high drag, and fuel is required to generate the power to overcome drag (power = drag * speed). A large, heavy vehicle is going to require fuel to generate the power to move the mass up an incline, and to move the mass times friction-coefficient in steady-level conditions. So, even if engine-technology is fantastic, and the driveline is optimized to reduce parasitic losses, the twin cost of mass and aerodynamic drag, result in comparatively poor mileage.

On the other hand, if we built light-weight, small vehicles that are streamlined and low to the ground, it would be possible to install large and powerful engines, and still have comparatively good gas-mileage. But that's not what the buying-public wants.

The automakers make what people want and people want SUVs and pickups plain and simple, the automakers are in business to make money and they were not making it on sedans, some automakers had more than a 100 day supply of unsold sedans that’s millions of dollars just sitting and not making money, in fact losing money because the automakers still have to pay their parts suppliers and employees but people want SUVs and pickups.

I also want to add, all of the "well once gas is $6 a gallon...." posters, um that's not happening ANYYYYTIME soon. Automakers know this. I hate Fords but they're not making a stupid decision, IMO.

When gas prices go up ... - Chicago Tribune

Besides, if you can afford a $75,000 truck you can afford the fuel bill.

These will always sell like hotcakes.

This is America and we love our trucks. I personally love it. Our roads are huge. Our country is huge. Move to Europe and buy a SmartForTwo if you hate it so much.

There is a billion dollar after market for SUVs and pickups and they don’t need permission from small vehicle drivers to do what they want to their pickups. Write your congressional leaders and express your anger and see what they say.
I've learned to never give the finger to anybody, especially dudes in pickups. Most of 'em carry guns

I always move over and let them go by.

I hate that they are frequently parked outside the lines in parking spaces. I hate that I can't see why we have come to a complete stop on the freeway because all I can see is the giant a** of the SUV in front of me. I hate driving behind giant SUVs with tinted back windows, because on a sunny day it is like someone is shining a spotlight directly into my eyes. I hate when they get behind me and try to bully me into going faster knowing their headlights are directly in my eyes. The bullying behavior to try to get me to go faster during our snowstorms this winter was awful. Go live in Montana if you want to drive your SUV in the snow like the guy in the commercial does.

Is that enough, lol?
That sums it up pretty well. It's awful being parked next to them because you have to back out of your own space blind because it's impossible to see around them. And they block your view of the road in front.

That’s news to me I see them all the time but again I live in the outskirts of the city.

There really isn't a hybrid in an affordable price range that can haul over 10,000 lbs.

Maybe the intended purpose behind large and overly gaudy SUV's is to look like you have money
spiritedly? As in speeding, weaving in and out of traffic? Stomping the gas is exhibition of speed. Going over the speed limit speaks for itself. That is more more dangerous to fellow drivers than flipping over an SUV.
