A lot of the speed limits that are being broken were set when automobiles routinely weighed two tons, had mechanical drum brakes, and tires made of cotton cord and gum rubber.

He did not say it was NOT about a highway, either, he just used those AS EXAMPLES of speeders. And the title of the thread does not mention city streets, either, so we can safely assume that he's talking about ALL speeders in ALL locations. Now quit trying to be the thread traffic cop.

This from the person that makes it a point to critique every post on this forum. How cute...
Assumption, is the key word, even in your response.

I rarely drive, since I live in a city where it is possible to live car-free; however, on the rare occasions where I am driving, I do speed. On certain highways, I'll do anywhere between 80 and 100 in the left lane. Why? Mostly because that's the default way that people in the Philadelphia area drive. One basically has to do 80 to avoid a crash on I-95, even when the posted speed limit is 55. I also feel a lot more comfortable speeding. Finally, statistics will say that I speed because I'm a 23 year old dude. Regardless of the reason why, I always speed in a safe manner.

I always make sure to abide by speed limits when I'm driving within a city, however. I know what it's like to be a pedestrian, cyclist, and/or skateboarder who has to avoid moronic drivers.

OK, let's talk city driving commute. Let's say a commuter has a one hour commute to work, with a 30 mph speed limit. If they drive 10 mph over the speed limit, they will save 15 minutes per trip, 30 minutes per day, 2.5 hours per week, 130 hours per year. If you can't understand that speeding saves time, then you don't understand basic mathematics.

Now let's say that commuter is a struggling minimum wage worker with a family. So instead of wasting that time savings, they work an extra 30 minutes of over time a day. That overtime will net the minimum wage worker an extra $2,000 a year. They will leave home the same time, they will get home the same time, and they will have an extra $2,000 in their pockets. For a struggling low income worker, that is a game changer.

Speeding is good. It saves time, it saves money, it makes people's lives better.
