That's a good point. I got caught up in all these companies just raising prices frequently and everyone (higher incomes) just going ahead and paying it. Competition in this area is what's needed.

There are many customers who are considering the Ioniq 5 in addition to the Model Y, for example.

Heading back from a roadtrip for work. Total of 682 miles. It’s going to end up costing me about $60 - which will be reimbursed by mileage at gas rates - and with charging, the work, and lunch should come in just under 13 hours total. I’ve physically driven my car less than 10% of the trip.

Never going back.

The 2023 Subaru Solterra is virtually identical to the AWD version of the 2023 Toyota bZ4X. But Toyota has used their tax incentive on the Prius Prime and the RAV4 Prime (and possibly the Lexus NX PHEV). So if this bill passes Subaru just lost their strongest selling point.

But Norway would never have achieved their incredibly high percentage of EV sales without massive tax incentives.

EVs seem to make it easier to adopt electronic automated driving aids. Woth the number of deaths from automobile accidents soaring, this tax incentive may be seen as partially being paid back in decreased hospitalization.

So you are getting reimubrsed 62.5 cents x 682 miles = $426.25 for a trip that will cost you ~$60. That should reimburse you most of your car payment for the month. A handy little side benefit.

The IRS reimbursement rate 62.5 cents/mile is meant to cover average wear and tear on the vehicle, not just fuel costs.

I don't think it is fraud.
  1. He could go to work in a Prius ECO and it would requires about 12.3 gallons of gasoline to drive 682 miles.
  2. He could go to work in a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX 4WD 6.2 L, 8 cyl, Automatic 8-spd, Supercharger MSRP: $72,390 which would require 56.6 gallons of gasoline to drive 682 miles.
  3. He could go to work in an EV which may result in lower fuel costs but a higher monthly payment.

Whatever he chooses as his personal vehicle he is going to reimbursed at 62.5 cents/mile or $426.25 for the trip. But if he chooses any of the three that is his personal choice and none of them is fraud.

Sorry PM! I was just kidding a bit, hence the smilies and the wink following.

When I was working, way back in the earlier part of last century , I was doing work that required offices to be closed while I installed or serviced equipment. Occasionally I would actually ride my bicycle to work. I checked with our travel disbursement officer and they said mileage is mileage, turn it in. Several of the jobs ended up 40 to 50 mile round trips, so I was getting pretty healthy travel checks those months.

I find the big brother factor even more dangerous, as this brand removes all your privacy.
