I bought 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross L for $34k out of the door. I feel I may have paid more than I should Got the color I wanted. I went to 3 Toyota dealerships and not many choices and I don't want to focus on car year-around.
Now it is done and I don't want to think about it.
Thanks everyone!
Congrats on your new Toyota! May you have many good years with it
I just found this thread and was going to chime in and suggest a Toyota.
I bought three of them in the last 42 years, each new. They were all fantastic vehicles and i'm still driving the third. I bought two of them as a single woman, alone. Had good experiences.
Congratulations! Good choice. I'm pretty sure I've never heard anyone say "I had one Toyota and never again!"
I remember twenty-plus years ago when my mother, who was even shorter than you, was in the market to replace her Toyota Tercel some of my siblings were able to prevail on her to move up to a Corolla. If I'd known she would even consider an upgrade I would have been lobbying for a Camry, but that Corolla was a good car for her. It may still be in service somewhere in North Jersey.

Good choice! You're right--there's not much inventory out there. I was even car shopping in Ohio, and dealers there said they were delivering cars to Indiana.
KIA Soul. Its ease of entry and exit and visibility are all great. Seating is upright and its height is midway between a sedan and an SUV so you get better road sight. I've had one almost 9 years and I've had to replace the brakes, the battery and the tires. Once for each. And its build quality and materials are very good and hold up. Its MPG isn't class leading but if you only drive 5K a year that's not a big issue. Its not too small like some of the smallest compacts but roomy inside and still compact.
Its not the bargain it was when I bought it 9 years ago. But still way less than what you are willing to pay.
One downside would be snow handling. Its a light car and good all seasons would be a must. Or actual snow tires if you get alot of snow.
Agreed - of course there are significantly larger - like a Chevy Suburban or a pickup with long bed and crew cab... but there are also significantly smaller than an Outback, and the OP has already made it clear she wanted a compact car... in fact she's made it clear that she's already bought her next vehicle!
Buy a Tesla and skip the dealership so you don't get ripped off.
I honestly believe this is a big part of Tesla's sales. Just tell me how much it is, put my name on the list, and let me know when I can pick it up.
