Nope, no So Cal for Baumgarner, will be house hunting in Paradise Valley instead.
Under 100M too, not bad for the Dbacks.

Don't get his at all. Not sure why the D-Backs committed 5 years to MadBum when they seem to be far away from contention.

It's easy to think that at first. But they are only paying him like 17m a year. They basically traded away Grienke & got prospects only to replace Grienke with another solid pitcher in Madison. And while I don't think Madison is as good as Grienke the degree of separate between the two is not huge IMO.

Plus, can they still trade Madison? I could easily see him getting traded to a contender at the deadline down the road & then you get even more prospects.

Well, thanks to the Diamondbacks for the draft choice. I wish they had finished worse than they did, they had the 10th most wins in 2019, so it will be a pick toward the back end of the special round. It would have been better for the Giants if Bumgarner had signed with the Tigers or Orioles.

Not without his approval. Bumgarner is a ten and ten player and he only needed five years with one club to be a ten and five player. As such, he is allowed to veto any trade during the duration of his contract.

Most draft picks fail, or at least, are trivial players at the MLB level at best.

.

The Giants played poorly for four seasons '05-'09 and got good draft positions as a consequence. Their three first round picks during this period were Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey.

So, sometimes you strike gold.

You can say that by looking at ALL draft picks. But what % of draft picks in the first 60 picks never make it to MLB? My point is the more picks you have that high the more likely you'll get a future All Star.
