Just finished " A Thousand Splendid Suns" and loved it.
Now I am going to read an Italian book which was a great success there.
"La Solitudine dei Numeri Primi" (The Loliness of Prime Numbers)
I don't think it has been translated into English but here is a review of the book in English
Out of the Blue: Book Review: La Solitudine dei Numeri Primi (http://alessandrasplace.blogspot.com/2008/12/book-review-la-solitudine-dei-numeri.html - broken link)
I read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See this weekend. It's the story of two girls who become friends in 19th century rural China and the story of women in that society in general. Sad but very beautiful.
I started The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley last night. It's a murder mystery with an 11-year-old girl who loves chemistry and especially poisons, as the protagonist. So far it's entertaining.
Lost and Found by Carolyn Parkhurst. It is different than these books I've read. It is a first person narrative, it shows each character's feelings, thoughts, and such as they are competing in a game much like the Amazing Race. Interesting stuff.
"Roses" by Leila Meacham. According to PEOPLE Reviews it is an epic read comparable to "The Thorn Birds." I'll let you know.
