Not much of a pleasure reader but recently I was "influenced" to get a copy of The Bangkok Blues

I just started "Anyone Can Do Anything" by Betty MacDonald. I've read it before, but it's been a while.

Be a few days before I might post about any current reads.
Rich Man Poor Man and Beggarman Thief (Irwin Shaw) together are over 1400 pages.
Only up to 308 now. Thoroughly engrossed.

I have just started Finding Dorothy which has me really hooked. Very interesting, historical fiction about Maude Baum (at least so far) - wife of L Frank Baum ( Wizard of Oz).
The descriptions about daily life and times is just so interesting to me. (Late 1800's, and then the making of the movie in 1939 and on).

I loved that book. It was fascinating to read about her, and how influential she was in her husband's writing.

I'm currently reading I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai, which to me seems similar in many ways to Donna Tartt's The Secret History, at least so far.

Rich Man Poor Man...excellent!!
Beggarman Thief...not really worth the time. It does clear up a couple of the 'cliff hangers' but not enough to make it worth it.
A lot of rehashing of the first book but in many, many more words and details then necessary just to give a reader a "catch up".

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Great book featuring a basically unprovoked shooting of a black kid by a white cop.
At first, I almost put it down for the reason that I'm an old lady and didn't intend to read any story featuring teens, rap 'music" and ghetto/hip hop slang.
I continued and glad I did.
Now off to read some of her others plus look into some that Amazon suggested in this genre that have mostly 5 star ratings.

"Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed."
