Ah, the MBTA. The gift that keeps on giving.

No one quoted in the article or posting in its comments section acknowledged one particular option for getting around downtown - walking. Years ago (2006-2007) I worked in a building near South Station and upon getting off work I would walk/jog to North Station. It was faster than the Orange Line and that was back when the Orange Line was more reliable.

I love to walk around the city and do so often. But that doesn't excuse the MBTA from providing proper service.

The biggest reason people don't want to return to the office.

You are right it does not excuse the MBTA for its poor performance. I was addressing the commuters who could skip the green, red or orange lines by walking for segments of their commutes, especially if they are allowing so much more time for commuting. Think about how far people could travel on foot if they walked instead of standing around the T stops.

You're right. And there have been many times I've done just that to avoid dealing with the T.

I have more times than not beat every single bus traveling toward Forest hills on Washington street on foot. What blows my mind is that there is a bus stop less than 75 yards from FH and I see people huddled there every morning waiting.

I've found that that walking from Ruggles to Kendall is at least competitive (and at lot more reliable) than trying to take the subway from South Station.

That's a nice walk but the 47 bus (or even the CT) would take you most of the way in a pinch. Jump out at MIT and walk the rest.

Unfortunately not everyone has the privilege of being able to walk.

Most people who are on the T are there because they have to be. It ain't the ferry to Nantucket! lol.
