"Cali" is a New Yorker term, thinking it sounds cool. It isn't used by natives in SoCal, not that I've heard. I've lived in L.A. my entire life...

Cali is the name of a city in Colombia, the cocaine capital of the world.

Whenever I hear somebody refer to my state as "Cali" I think what an idiot!

Hey, what do all you folks from Frisco think?

My wife's daughter is a native and she refers to California as Cali. I know exactly what a person is saying. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. It's just not a big deal.

In other words, you're normal.

We think the same as you: What an idiot!
When someone says "Frisco," we think, Must be a tourist. No one who lives here says that.

This never bothered me while in California and I have even defended the alias before on CD.

However, after living Colo for 4 years hearing everyone call it Cali, I have become officially annoyed with it and now hate the term.

It is so annoying. It's always people from other states that call it that. It's like they are trying to seem cool or something.

I always tell them that Cali is a town in Colombia and they usually look at me confused.

I see it on Facebook sometimes when an old classmate from high school that lives in another state wants to visit their family here in California, they write statuses like "Going back to Cali in two days. Yay."

Oh, people in the up there hate the term "Frisco." It's like a racial slur to them.
