What model year is your diesel? My '85 has never required a "smog check".

Talk about a shake down fee.
How much did it cost you ?

It's a 2002 and it was around 50-75 bucks if I remember correctly. Just a stupid fee. I'd have to look it up.

Unfortunate but true. Too bad it isn't. Too bad there isn't a death penalty for it.

About 85% of the population in Arizona is located in the two metro areas that require smog checks every two years. Vehicles that are brought into the state and registered must have an emissions inspection regardless of the location.

So, odds are anyone moving from California to Arizona for anything other than retiring in the middle of nowhere will be required to have their vehicles smog checked. The same thing applies in California. I can move to Mono or Alpine counties where I don't have to get a smog check every two years. That's great if someone can find a way to support themselves in those rural locations. The reality is very few of us can do that and have to live in populated areas where air quality is an issue.

Smog checks are also required in many locations throughout the country. In some locations they go a step further and inspect the whole vehicle. Brakes, turn signals, horns, headlights, seatbelts, rust, tires, etc. Furthermore, a few of these places require annual inspections. Oddly, I have never once seen anyone from one of those locations complain about it. However, I have seen numerous posts in the California forum from people living in those locations ***** up a storm about California's smog checks even though they aren't affected by them.

In fact, there seems to be a lot of people in other parts of the country who spend a lot of time and effort bitching about things in California that doesn't affect them.

Probably because CA is usually first to create new laws and they know it is going to have a trickle down effect.

Another CA tax scam where money gets moved to general fund to support illegals and homeless.

I heard that this is in reaction to the potential de-funding of California by the feddle gubmint in response to the state harboring illegal aliens. I have two questions for Californians to ponder if this is indeed the case:

1. Trump won't be in office forever, and the next administration will begin pouring cash into California, even if the state is still aiding and abetting illegal behavior. Do you suppose the taxes will be lifted once the federal funds come back? History answers that one as a negative.

2. If illegal aliens are such a boon to the economy, and California has millions of them, why does the state need to increase taxes at all? If anything, the illegal aliens contributing to the state economy should make it possible to get rid of taxes. Wyoming and Tennessee have no state income tax, should I assume that they have more illegal aliens contributing to their state economies, and maybe California needs more? I'm confused.

And you're right. There's absolutely nothing....nothing at all....that the Interior people can or will do about it. They MUST accept it.

...and that's why most firearms are illegal in California lol
