But no, not me personally thinking of that
My mistake. I could have sworn you said that was the reason. Got it.

You think so? From the numerous articles and boisterous clamoring I read on CD about how it needs to be abolished, I was getting the impression it would be very popular and maybe successful (which I think would be awful). I hope more people think like you.

Taking 13 away from business is just getting their foot in the door to take it away from homeowners too. Thank goodness I'm old.

CD posters tend to lean conservative, as in ultra. And Newsom has no idea who his enemies are until he takes on Prop 13. He's probably been advised about that.

I honestly don't think so. Nevada has a split roll tax law where businesses and rental properties are taxed at a higher rate and allowable annual increases are higher than for single family homes. It doesn't seem to be leading to any 'movement' to remove the 3% annual increase limit afforded homeowners.

Doubt it. Newsom is extremely popular in California. Sure he may take a "hit" in popularity but he's one of the few (along with the super dem majority) that could effectively kill Prop 13.

He's already floating "drinking water" taxes. These are just feints and movements. Wait until he's warmed up the governor's seat a little while.

Imagine this: Newsom proposes "CA Health Care for all" but in order to float the bill he pairs it with "Kill Prop 13" in order to "fund health care for all".

You honestly think the California Dem voting bloc wouldn't vote for that?

Newsom getting elected is one of the major reasons I moved the majority of my holdings out of the state. Far too risky and I worked hard for that money.

Baloney, Cali. And you know it.

He can float whatever he wants; doesn't mean any of his ideas will materialize.

He'll fall flat on his face with that one. And he knows it. However, "universal healthcare for all" sounded like a good campaign promise, and Newsom is about image.

No I disagree, Newsom disagrees with you as well.

Newsom is already planning the split roll for 2020, that may include provisions for secondary or rental properties. (which will have the effect of reducing the supply of rentals and increasing the costs of rents)

He was also asked about Prop 13 during the campaign last year.

Newsom was asked directly whether Proposition 13 was “on the table.”

He answered, “everything is on the table.”
Basically you're taking the platform that a Dem Super-majority with Newsom at the lead won't fight to increase taxes. You're also taking the platform that the Dem voting bloc in California wouldn't sacrafice Prop 13 for a state health care for all plan that covers EVERYONE (even non-tax payers or illegal aliens). Really? Good luck with that. CA Health Care for All isn't going to disappear, his voting bloc will make sure of that. It was one of his biggest campaign promises.

Voting has consequences.

Yup. It's all adding up. CA Health Care for all is coming. How Newsom intends to pay for it is the only question.
