Chuck

For me finding Hyperion was not an ego trip but more solving a great puzzle. Here's the tallest tree, here's some video from its base and top, here's an excellent book by a noted author describing its discovery and first climb, and by the way, no one is going to tell you where it is. You have to go and find it. It's the challenge, it's not an ego thing.

Maybe I was a little tired and dehydrated but when leaving the Hyperion area the tree seemed to be talking to me. It told me thanks for stopping by and keeping mainly on the log beside me and the area away from my roots. It told me it was glad to participate in research and didn't mind being climbed once a year to measures its growth and even all the pin pricks by the core borer were not so bad. But it said, hey, there is a tall one right beside me, why don't you go pick on him for a couple years. Give me a break.

It also told me it was good to see a few more people, they were much more interesting visitors than the black bears and mountain lions rubbing their asses and sharpening their claws against its trunk.

Mark

I'm boiling over with frustration right now, Obi_Wan_Kenobi. I can't find Juggernaut for the life of me. And neither can those FR fakers. I heard several of there trees on that site are misleading and have fake coordinates.

You're looking for this one?

Juggernaut. Redwood National and State Parks. Sequoia sempervirens.

I recall but one other person ever sharing what seemed to be the same identical tree. About 3 or 4 years ago. It was on some flickr or smugmug album without any location. Not mdvaden, but some other hiker or photographer.

Although there are many big redwood photos online, its looks is fairly distinct. Especially with the Douglas fir or hemlock trunks on the right and left sides of it.

Yep is that the same tree which also goes by Grogan's Fault?

General Kenobi have you had any luck narrowing down who is behind FR? Give me your list of suspects right here right now.

That's odd Mr. Graham. Are you sure you weren't high when you went out to Lost Man Creek and spotted Hyperion?

O M W - Could be I was high on all that oxygen those redwood forests put out. If I ever get a chance to name a redwood it's going to be called Oxygen. Lower Lost Man is underrated for redwoods, that's for sure. It has the old logging road trail that is easy and then that spur which is pretty easy going along the west side of Larry Dam. Hiking anywhere else there is very difficult, really steep with lots of debris on the ground. Mark

For FR I would look for a group with really clean hiking boots, as it looks like they don't go very far off trail. FR could be good with some judicious editing, maybe they will come to their senses and reject the Dark Side.

Mr. Graham that's really neat that you trudged up Little Lost Man and Lost Man Creek, snapped some pictures of Hyperion, and then found The Behemoth of Lost Man Creek. Bagged 2 holy grail redwoods for the price of one. Nicely done, fine sir. Word on the street is that quickest route to Hyperion is Berry Glen Trail.

Mr. Graham give me your list of suspects as to who is behind FR right here right now. I need a list of names so I can start digging up dirt.

O M W

I don't have any suspects to name.

One thing, the pano flash html content is pretty fancy, maybe that is a route to investigate. There are lots of web sites with redwood pictures but not many with interactive and flash panoramic views of redwoods.

Maybe we can work behind the scenes on it versus putting names out there.
