Ridiculous uneducated rant. Do you really think that the U.S is the only place that celebrates Christmas or has starbucks? Maybe you should travel outside Compton city limits sometime.

Get it?

Anyhow, I've lived in both places, as well as in Paris and Sydney, AU. I've now returned to my native country (America), and can tell you that I prefer it here, though there are some of those issues that have been listed are true. (If I had to leave, I would definitely go back to Australia, never to Canada).

I'd say, if a person could somehow summarize the differences in one way, it's that Americans are far more independent and self-sufficient than Canadians, fiercely so in fact.

I read once that what makes an American soldier so dangerous to his enemies in battle is that he's so durned fiercely independent. If the situation arises, he can and will go forward into battle without any guidance. Not that they take off on their own, but if they do find themselves without a defined leader, why, they'll just wing it, and they do extraordinarily well in such cases. (They also happen to be the best marksmen in the world now, something Canadians used to be able to state).

By comparison, the French, for instance, just give up. The Italians would never have gotten into the war in the first place, and want to go drink wine and make love. The Canadians? They really need or want a superior's input, though they are known to be good well disciplined fellows when well managed.

Which sort of sums it up: Americans are brash, full of high spirits, noisy, but able to take on big challenges all on their own. They have some of the world's richest people because of this trait: (Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Steve Jobs, and on and on) because of their penchant for risk-taking that scares off most Canadians.

Also, this enables them to laugh off most criticisms, or to accept it from outsiders with a smile, an offer to buy you a beer and laugh about America, and then to press on.

Canadians are far more conservative, but to a fault, and are remarkably obedient and confident in their politicians. If their government says it's so, why, it must be so!

In addition, as I've seen it, they are very sensitive to criticism about anything in Canada, even when they know inside that it may be true. They don't have that happy sense of humor and self-deprecation that Americans do.

So, everything in America reflects that brash over-confidence. But I prefer that to the mopey downer attitude I've seen so often in Canada. Don't you?

(I hope any Canadian readers don't take this as criticism and get all huffy or defensive, which would sort of prove my point.)
We have another trigger happy American here, who thinks war will solve all issues. Right now, Canada is looking much more inviting with North Korea in the middle of launching a war missile that could possibly reach as far as Hawaii. Good luck to you Chuck Norris.

The health care is great in Canada if you are healthy and poor... If you are in hurry though and haven't maxed out your credit cards the US has MUCH better health care. Doesn't even compare... Canada is similar to the Eastern European public hospital standard but with less doctors.

The K-12 schools in Canada are better than the US though.
Universal health care in Canada is looking more and more favorable to "all" American citizens. Be glad you have it... it's a luxury most countries don't have.

Free speech (at least for now)

Con-

Everybody seems to hate the USA
Broken immigration system
Corrupt tinpot tyrant politicians that never accomplish anything of value
Run-down crappy slum cities like Detroit, Cleveland, and New Orleans
Having to deal with lots of people who pride themselves on refusing to learn and/or speak English

Canada:

Pro-

Better national image
Occasionally better beer (Pabst Blue Ribbon is still the ultimate king, but some Canadian beers come close)

Con-

Crime (5th highest rape rate in the world, according to the RCMP and US DOJ- higher than the USA in terms of rate of assault, robbery, burglary, theft/larceny- the USA only beats Canada in terms of number of murders and murder rate)
Broken immigration system
Bogus British Commonwealth rather than a Republic
The whole monarchy thing
Lack of individualism and personal independence
No frontier spirit
Forbidden book lists/banned book lists
Crappy slum cities like Toronto and Windsor
Having to deal with lots of people who pride themselves on refusing to learn and/or speak English
Is this Canada????? Don't think so!! ?We have individualism and independence???? And who do you think settled out West , East and the North if not frontiers???We do not have banned books?? Most people in Montreal and Quebec speak two languages in order to accomplish any kind of commerce. How many languages do you speak??

Are you sure that's not a typo? I don't believe that it could get to -60 even when factoring in the wind chill. Toronto's weather isn't much different than Chicago's (in fact, it's known to be milder and less windy).
