I can't believe I watched the whole thing. I just put it on at the start to check it out and never turned it off. Very inspirational, very moving. I just cried at the end when they picked up the casket and started walking up the aisle and you heard Whitney's voice:
"If I Should stay I would only be in your way So I'll go But I know I'll think of you every step of the way..."
The end really got to me, especially when they picked up the casket, and the young man seated near it reached out and touched it. Then he broke down. That and "I'll Always Love You" playing so clearly nearly undid me.
I thought the services were beautifully done. I'm so glad the family allowed it to be televised for those who did not personally know her, but admired her work.
Bobby Brown showed the world today what he truly is, a little man, without soul. As far as him being wanted at the services, I think if his daughter, Bobbi Kristina, wanted to be seated by him, she would have been. You can't tell me an 18 year old girl wanting her daddy by her side at her mother's funeral wouldn't happen if "she" wanted it. Speaks volumes about this father/daughter relationship.
Again and again Bobby Brown proves how selfish and disgusting he truly is. Whitney was not perfect, but Bobby is about as low as a person can get.
I didn't understand the Winan (sp?) clergy in the red/black robe talking and telling funnies for so much time. Maybe it's a cultural/ethnic thing, but I thought that was strange and disrespectful....after all, this isn't a performance about him, it's about Whitney. When he finally got to the Whitney part, I thought it was fine. The "expressions" of the others seemed very personal and heartfelt.
But yeah, 4 hours, that nurse kept walking around taking people in and out and attending to others. that was different from the funerals I have been to...
May she RIP. I always admired her so much. This is so sad for her mother and especially her daughter....
It's definitely cultural. Many years ago, when I first got to know some black Baptists, we talked about the differences in our styles of worship. To an Episcopalian like me, where church is more quiet and meditative and centered around Communion and prayer, the style of preaching looked like showmanship and the yelling back at the preacher by the congregation seemed irreverent. But, all churches vary depending upon cultural mores that can go back centuries. During slavery, worship time allowed for a release of emotions and behavior that were not permissable in the day-to-day life of labor. And the call-and-response style you see in the preaching and singing goes all the way back to African drumming.
I think it was the aim, and probably a great comfort, to Cissy Houston to hold her daughter's funeral in the traditional Baptist way and even more so in the exact church where her daughter first heard the gospel.
If that is true then he SUCKS. Lower than scum. I was willing to give the man some chance at redemption with this. I thought he would show up, sit with his daughter and perhaps get up and say a kind word about his departed wife. And maybe let the daughter know he was there for her. But I guess that was expecting too much. It is pretty bad when R Kelley and Kayne West show more class than YOU Bobby Brown.
I sure hope Brown doesn't go on talk shows to "defend" why he left his ex-wife's funeral. It would be a waste of time; you can't explain away crudeness.
Now I wonder if he was high the brief time he appeared at the funeral. Wouldn't surprise me.

You're right. As black Baptist, a funeral is a celebration more that a mourning. It is a rejoicing of life. It's a calling home. It's a remembrance of life. I have grown up in the Baptist church. It was always a fun and joyful experience as a kid.
Bobby Brown should have been on the front row sitting next to Bobbi Kris and the rest of his family should have been allowed to attend this service. I hate the fact that Whitney's ONLY husband didnt get to see her go home.
We don't know the whole story with Brown and why he left early. I read his statement. He was saying that he and his other kids plus a couple of other good friends (not an entourage as the tabloid media reports) were seated and the security asked them 3 times to move back. He got tired of it. He blew a kiss to Whitney's casket and left without making a scene.
I watched a few scenes of the service and it was definitely a traditional home going service.
She definitely will be missed but her angelic soulful voice will live on.
Whitney Houston's funeral will aways be memorable to me. I burst out crying toward's the end, while the casket was being being carried out and her mother walking behind it while Whitney's singing in the background, " I'll Always Love you". My prayers go out to her family and friends. Dang, so tragic. I loved Kevin Costner words about Whitney. Cissy (her mother) you did good.
