And we knew it would be. And the iPhone6 will too. and the 7.
But Apples marketshare will probably continue to shrink...
It's not like these are sales to people that don't have a smartphone. It's probably 90% people upgrading older iPhones. 7% Android users switching. And maybe. Maybe. 3% that never had a smartphone before.
So yea, while I do believe Apple has peaked in market share... they won't be going away any time soon. and that's good.
iPhone4s took 22 hours of pre-ordering to slip to two weeks shipping, iPhone5 took 1 hour.
That's why it makes no sense, every year so far for 3 years you hear stuff about iPhone being done. I relate that to Hyundai, every year for years you hear that Hyundai is no longer garbage, but it remains trashy along with Android phones.

Since most people are on two-year contracts, you are more-than-likely correct in that the majority of iPhone sales are going to those who are upgrading from an older iPhone with only a handful of sales going to new iPhone users. Android users are going to stick with Android for the most part.
Apple is usually the innovator when it comes to computer technology, yet, with the iPhone Apple is a few years behind. It doesn't help that Apple only releases one phone a year but that is still a whole year they have to get their act in gear and push the innovation. However, that could also mean the iPhone could lose its sleek design. One thing that comes to mind is lack of USB, miniUSB: which is standard on practically every other phone in the market. In particular, with chargers. I read something yesterday that Apple's insistence on keeping to a proprietary plug is going to keep sales down.

Really? An Android phone is trashy? I think we now have a winner for dumbest post of the thread.

I also think a good number of iPhone 5 buyers are going to be those that once used a BlackBerry. Their market share continues to fall as those user opt for iPhones and Androids.

Well and the fact that the poster's analogy didn't work because Hyundai does make a decent car now.
A lot of Android phones are trash, but the good ones, GS3, One X, are good if not better than the iPhone 4S. Better than the iPhone 5 is up to debate.
The iPhone 5 isn't a bad phone by any means, it just seems as though for a brand NEW iteration "5" we would have seen something a bit "more." This seemed like an incremental upgrade like the: 3GS, 4S and even those seemed to have more pizzazz than this current iPhone.

today for today, yeah they suck.
I stand by my Hyundai analogy, look at previous generation Hyundai's and Androids.. same hyoe people spew now was said for those products on their release.
look
at
them
now
edit:
compare an '03 Accord to an '03 Hyundai
compare an iPhone3g to a whatever Android phone that was the 'iPhone killer' of its time.
I am satisfied with the iPhone 4S, I really don't see the need to upgrade to an iPhone 5. It would have to be fundamentally different.
