Yeah, channel 36 said this evening that it was US Airways that instigated this move to an airport authority.

There are clowns running the city of Charlotte. WCNC is reporting that people working to take the airport control away from the Mayor & city council, received talking points from a city council & Mayor appointee.

Michael Barnes, a city council member, says it's "disappointing". LOL

The new city manager is opposed to the new airport authority model.....

Dulin: Airport advisory chairman should be fired | CharlotteObserver.com

The surrounding counties are salivating to get an authority in place but oppose any bill that would put in place a similar airport authority for their regional airports.. let the side show begin...step right up folks.

You missed the obvious side-show of that article you posted. It's about the current airport authority created by the city council to oversee Jerry Orr for the city. Under the proposed new law, this authority would be abolished and replaced by one operated by the state.

The head of this current city controlled authority has been helping the state to make arguments against the city of Charlotte and in support of state control. That is why the city council is furious. LOL. Of course Foxx won't release an appointed political hack though the council is calling for it. It's clown city in the government building. I've never seen a more incompetent, impotent, and useless city council than the one we have now.

Thanks for the link. It was amusing to read about the continuing clown antics of the city government. (though I already knew about this situation)

Actually, the clowns are in the surrounding metro counties, especially those who want to apply a form of regional oversight to the Charlotte airport yet don't see the benefit of their regional airport reporting to a similar authority. The level of hyprocrisy is palpable. I see why city leaders are trying to protect their interest from these power grabbing Goobers who see Charlotte as some distant bully that needs to be tamed. If the authority gets instated in its current form, I'll give the hub 5-10 years before they pull out for greener pastures (gradual process), wait till the incompetent yahoos in surrounding counties bring their "genious" to the table....this ain't Mayberry.

Maybe you missed the fact that their airports have been essentially shut down by the FAA. There are no traffic controllers with the new budget as they were all sent to CLT. If this becomes permanent, then it's in their interest to have some say in the "new" regional airport. Hickory & Monroe airport will shut in a few days, Concord airport will shutdown after the May race to accommodate the Nascar industry one last time.

I'd think you would be more concerned with Jerry Orr's effective boss, who works for the city, helping the state take this authority away from the city. You mentioned hypocracy, maybe you should re-examine the application here.

Foxx has consistently appeared vindictive, childish, petty, divisive, and his actions have hurt the credibility of Charlotte with many many people in this state. He spends more time in DC and NYC involving himself in national politics rather than dealing with the state and local issues which is he paid to do.

IMO he is a horrible mayor and this action, firing the airport authority manager for simply doing his job, demonstrates exactly why the state is right to pull the airport away from petty politicians such as this. And the firing came after a televised public inquisition of this man, held by a mayor and council who at the same time has hidden, many times, behind closed doors because they didn't want the public to see what they were up to. The only good thing I see about Foxx being mayor of CLT is the job won't do anything else for his resume and he has decided to move on.

What city are they running into the ground? Please provide some quantative data that supports your claim. The airport and city are doing well considering the recession that decimated the financial industry which was/is critical to the Charlotte bottom line.

You don't get it. Foxx and Co knew the outcome of the study. Meaning, the current model doesn't include enough Charlotte city representation and the state legislature wants the airport to be run by a bunch of state goobers and goomers. This is a recipe for disaster on a number of fronts.

They already knew the airport authority was gonna happen, but this gives them ammunition to push to modify the bill to place more representatives from the city regardless of political affiliation. After all, it is the CHARLOTTE airport...not bugtussle or rural counties.

Some of you guys are so caught-up in the bias (anti-Foxx and dems) business that you can't see the forest for the trees. The current airport authority model is not good for the city, regardless of who is mayor or the city council composition.
