There's been much talk of the necessity of water baptism for salvation. I want to show why as a fundamentalist we believe the "baptism into Christ" given by Paul is the exact same as the "circumcision of the heart" given by Jeremiah. Neither have anything to do with water, as they are the same reference!
When speaking of our salvation experience, Jeremiah tells us in Jer. 4:4,
"Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings."
Now notice how Paul equates "the circumcision of the heart" with a change in the heart, in the Spirit and not of the Law and flesh.
Romans 2:28-29
"For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."
Now look at what Paul associates "the circumcision of the heart" with, now calling it the "circumcision of Christ."
Colossians 2:11-12
"In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."
Now we see that the "circumcision of the heart" is being "buried with Him in baptism." This is the "operation of God" in the Spirit, that associates the believer with Christ by faith.
Now let's put it together! Let's see what the "baptism into Christ" really is!
Romans 6:3-5
"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:"
Can you now see that the "baptism into Christ" is the spiritual act of our salvation by the "circumcision of the heart?" It has nothing to do with water baptism, other than water baptism being the visible symbol of our spiritual salvation through the "circumcision of the heart."

You understand this part so well, Charlie, and you seem to know that our heart is to try to have the same spirit as the Holy Spirit of agape love revealed and unambiguously demonstrated by Jesus. Why do you seem to have such a hardened heart and present a heart that is the opposite of agape love and stresses wrath and vengeance and damnation???

Yes, an outward sign (physical/visible) of an inner reality (spiritual/hidden).
But suggesting "It has nothing to do with water" is like stating that the knife (or sharp piece of obsidian) has nothing to do with circumcision!
That's just nonsense Charlie, and to what end?
From the apostles examples in scripture, we see them fulfilling Christ's command to 'baptize all nations' - and yes, they used 'water'.
What your missing, and that is amazing, is that Christ himself ordained that 'simple/common' outward substances be used (Matthew 23:16-17) for these sacred oaths/covenants He instituted (sacramentum) - water in baptism, wine & bread in Eucharist, etc.
1 Corinthians 10 Paul makes it clear that when we partake of the Eucharist we partake of THE body and blood of Jesus:
(v.16)"The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ?
The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?.";
How could we be sharing in the body and blood of Jesus unless his body and blood were present?
Paul underscores this truth in the subsequent verses when he draws a parallel between the Eucharist and pagan sacrifices:
(v.20-21)"[W]hat pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God.
I do not want you to be partners with demons…
You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons ."
Furthermore, three times in 1 Corinthians 11:27-30 Paul uses language that shows he believes the Eucharist is literally Jesus and not a mere symbol: "Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily
will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord.
A person should examine himself,
and so eat the bread and drink the cup.
For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body,
eats and drinks judgment on himself."
Good thread Charlie - Water, wine, bread - given freely to partake of in this life as physical/visual sign/oath to partake in His Life Eternally, in the next!
God brought circumcision to the House of Isaac to be cleansed in a covenant, see circumcision was good because it reduced disease as it cleansed people as people did not bath as they should, like leprosy people infested are known to have very little bathing .......... So through Jesus circumcision was abolished and people would be cleansed in the spirit through Christ

But it is NOT Christian according to Jesus, THE Word of God.
Between the UR and denying the authors who say what you don't want to hear, yes, I can see you saying that.
