Santa Cruz, CA, or Venice Beach (Los Angeles neighborhood), CA?
Santa Cruz. I wouldn't care to be in such a massive metro area as LA. Being in Santa Cruz provides easy access to incredible natural areas including redwood forests.

Searcy, Arkansas or Lewisburg, Pennsylvania?
Both are a lot better than I expected, but Lewisburg has better schools, while still being inexpensive.
Definitely Independence. Dustbowl country has no appeal to me.
Odessa, Texas or Sebastopol, California? (not the Black Sea ports )
Sebastopol. Not to mention I like the scenery and nature by there, better. Odessa is more isolated, than I prefer in west Texas. Even if it is near Midland, to the east.
Scenic places near nice nature areas, moreso than Odessa in west Texas and New Mexico: Cloudcroft, NM, or Alpine, TX?

Both are pretty similar, but Alpine is a bit cheaper, so I'll go with that one.

Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania or Edina, Minnesota?
I'll go with Mt. Lebanon, since the cost of living is a little less there. Edina almost seems from looking up its stats (though it isn't Irvine, CA, but still.....), a little bit pricier than I prefer.
Speaking of that very recent Alabama vs. Indiana thread here: Hoover, AL, or Carmel, IN?

Carmel... both would be very nice places to live but Carmel is more in line with what I'm looking for from a cultural/political standpoint. Living within the larger metro area would hopefully present better opportunities for me too.
Another Alabama vs Indiana battle:
Huntsville, AL or South Bend, IN?

Huntsville is a far better town. The neat museums, art stores, and restaurants are nice. The city is growing faster as well.

Newark, NJ or Richmond, CA?
Newark. From what I hear, Richmond is a purely industrial suburb of Oakland/San Francisco. Newark is an actual city with a downtown, shops and restaurants, sports arena, performing arts center and museum.
An original and a wannabe:
Charlottesville, Va., or Newark, Del.?
(And what am I referring to with that description of the two cities?)
