They both sit in beautiful mountain settings, and Charleston (being a larger city and the state capital) has more to offer. But Cumberland, despite being economically depressed, is a very pleasant community with friendly people. Not saying that Charleston isn't, but I'm familiar enough with Cumberland to know that I like it, and I would choose it as a place to live in this instance.
Now, for a choice between these two states' mountain college towns: Frostburg, MD or Morgantown, WV?
I have street viewed both these towns before, and to me I think I'd rather live in Morgantown. That said Frostburg is NOT a bad town, and is indeed a nice town for sure. I'd just prefer to live somewhere a little bigger, than Frostburg.
For the comparison I missed, I'll pick the Burlington in Massachusetts. Looks like more going on there, vs. the one in New Hersey.

Meadville, PA, or Yellow Springs, OH?
I'll go with Meadville PA. Prefer the location and the downtown seems much larger, especially like the park at the center.
That's a tough one. I think I'd go with Sioux Falls South Dakota, only because South Dakota has Mt Rushmore.
For some reason, these 2 towns always reminded me of one another -
Muncie, Indiana or Decatur, Illinois?
Muncie is probably objectively better but eh, I just don't like the Indy area very much and living in Muncie would make it hard to avoid. I've been to Decatur, it's pretty depressing, but having access to Springfield, Urbana-Champaign, and Bloomington-Normal would lighten the mood a lot. I'd be spending a lot of time in those cities.

Walla Walla, WA or Portsmouth, OH?
Walla Walla... it's a growing and more vibrant small city compared to Portsmouth which is economically depressed and shrinking. Not a fan of Walla Walla's geographic isolation, but Portsmouth isn't a whole lot better being nearly 2 hours from Cincinnati and Columbus. For day to day living, Walla Walla seems much better.

Provincetown, MA or Montauk, NY?
Two resort towns at land's end.
Provincetown being much, much livelier and more animated during the high tourist season, I think I'd prefer living there even if I weren't gay.
Keeping it resort but switching to the state that Ben Franklin called "a keg tapped at both ends", two swanky beach towns, one in each of the state's two ends:

Deal, N.J., or Stone Harbor, N.J.?
Think I'll go with Stone Harbor. I just prefer the south Jersey shore beaches to the North Jersey shore. More scenic and a more relaxed vibe.
New London CT or Riverhead NY?
