Rehoboth Beach. It's close to places like DC and Philly. Far enough south that the ocean water is comfortable. Myrtle Beach use to be a good place at one time. But since they tore down the Pavilion and erased so much of its history and charm, it's become a big, tacky, crime-ridden mess. Asheville because it's more protected from hurricanes and has a more definitive four-season climate along with better full-time job prospects, and due to the dilution of old southern culture, resembles a lot of cities out west these days.
