There's a huge emphasis on size in Texas. Always an intense desire to be the biggest, hence a lot of Houstonians and Dallasites have a thirst to pass Chicago in population.

I've seen it. Even if they did one day, most Americans would still consider Chicago the 3rd city for a long time after.

People who worry about that stuff are ridiculous. Even if Houston passes Chicago in population, it’s not like the characters of the cities magically change.

But don’t conflate that with the over 99% of people here who don’t care.

I hope so, but Gaylord does have a point.

You're right, most people don't care or know. I know Chicagoans who didn't know LA was bigger.

Not gonna dredge up old threads or call out posters but they're out there.

For me, I don't care if Seattle is the 9th largest or 13th largest, and honestly not sure the average Seattilite knows. Or for that matter, the average Clevelander. But it's certainly Texas chatter.

Oh there are definitely some idiots on here from Houston, Dallas, Austin, and every city. Those are the ones that will bring up pointless stuff like that.

But in real life (outside CD), its not something people care about. I dont think I ever heard it in Dallas at all and Ive heard someone mention it once in Houston in 5 years.

I don't know if the average Austinite knows what their rank is among metro or city population.

I agree with this. I’ve met people from Austin who were surprised that Dallas was a bigger city and as progressive as it is. They tend to live in their own bubble down there. lol

To be fair to Irvine, I'd say that it's skyline is limited by FAA height restrictions due to John Wayne being right next to the Irvine Business Complex, as well as SoCal being seismically very active. Even if just one of these constraints didn't exist, Irvine's skyline would undoubtedly be much bigger and taller than it is now. Irvine is already incredibly dense for an outer suburb in America, and that density would definitely give rise to many more high rises.
