Well. I can't help you don't understand the airline industry or how airline hubs work. ATL airport is blessed with location. That's how it can support nearly 80% of the airport traffic simply being people connecting through it.

I think the problem with the Virginia vs. Georgia comparison is that both will be blown away by Texas. Austin is far more relevant to tech than anyplace in Virginia or Georgia, and Atlanta's growth will continue to be slower than DFW, Houston, an Austin. Austin will surpass in Atlanta in annual numeric growth sometime in the 20s.

Speaking of ATL airport, it's a problem that its south of the town when so much of the growth has been to the north. Atlanta is now the 2nd largest urbanized area in the country in terms of land, and no one in their right mind wants to travel from Duluth or Alpharetta to Hartsfield-Jackson anytime around rush hour.

Idk about Georgia, but Texas is not a "problem" for Virginia. While both states are Census Southern based, Virginia is in a whole different sub region of the country, and really there's nothing that Texas can do to affect Virginia's successes. Texas cities (Austin, Dallas) just lost to Virginia for Amazon. Go read up on the reasons why. Virginia is churning along just fine, it's just the 757/Tidewater area that needs to step it up. Virginia is sandwiched in the middle of the East Coast with probably more people than Texas's population in a 400 mile stretch North or South outside of it's boundaries. Virginia is a smaller state than Texas with better public universities overall than Texas. Lastly it borders the capital city of the most powerful nation on Earth, and NoVa is the most important business center of a 10 million CSA between DC-Baltimore-Nova. I don't think Austin or Dallas or Houston will do anything to change or affect Virginia directly or indirectly at all. So let's leave Texas out of this.

Exactly. If VA lucked out with DC's location then so did Atlanta with it's location both geographically and for being in the same time zone as the major east coast cities for being a logistics hub.

If only the people in these suburbs had an easy solution like voting to extend a rapid transit system that already goes to the airport.

I have a feeling that people are automatically ranking Virginia higher here just because it's an increasingly blue state

That’s not a feeling. Blue states are far more favorable than Red ones.

In any event, It's not just about Northern Virginia. Really, the entire state of Virginia throughout the more recent decades has been making incredible investments and its already tangible and showing the fruits of the hard work and planning efforts made by local and civic leaders. The state has been very good to it's urban areas compared to other states that fight urban areas over everything.

That's a matter of opinion. I don't consider myself to be a conservative, but I'd much rather live in Georgia than anywhere in New England.
