Detroit. Even though Atlanta is far more prosperous now, both have been centers for black commerce, have large black populations and have a musical connection. Which is more similar to Myrtle Beach SC; Daytona Beach FL or Virginia Beach VA?

Nashville. Both are river cities and located in the upper south. Chattanooga, however, does not have much influence from either despite being so close.

Is Orlando, FL more similar to Columbus, OH or Indianapolis, IN?

I'll say Columbus. Both have huge state universities with student populations north of 60K, two major league sports franchises, and share their states with other major cities.

Is Memphis more similar to Jackson, MS or Little Rock?

Jackson because they share similar deep south delta culture and high crime rates. Both are historically known for black culture contributions. Jackson is seeing some interest in downtown revitalization. Memphis is seeing a healthy amount of development as well. Both could use some good economic news.

Is Cincinnati more similar to Milwaukee or Richmond?

Memphis is more similar to Knoxville, in my opinion. They're both Tennessee cities - like the bookends of the Tennessee cities with Nashville being the books in between (just how I see it).

Is Atlanta more similar to Boston or Milwaukee?

Is Atlanta more similar to Boston or Milwaukee?
Interesting question, since they all share a common thread: MLB's Braves. All three are very distinct from each other, but I'll have to go with Boston here, mostly due to the level of regional importance. Milwaukee is much more overshadowed by Chicago than Boston is to NYC. Both Atlanta and Boston have mass transit systems (though Boston's is more extensive). Heavy traffic is a big problem in both, and there are many suburbs with their own mini-downtowns unlike Milwaukee. Milwaukee doesn't have a Federal Reserve bank branch unlike the other two. Sure, Emory seems very "everyman" compared to Harvard, but its underrated in terms of reputation and there's both Georgia Tech and MIT, so they're both educationally important. Milwaukee is mostly an everyman college town with the prestigious school over in Madison.

Is Carmel, CA more similar to East Hampton, NY or Palm Beach, FL?

I would have answered the Atlanta question the same way you did but add that both cities are considered the "capitals" of their respective regions (the South and New England).

As far as Carmel is concerned, that's a toughie, but I gotta go with East Hampton. Its architecture mixes Spanish Mission, Tudor, and Bavarian styles, which I think would be more at home in East Hampton than Palm Beach. Also, Palm Beach is all showy and glitzy, while Carmel (to me) gives off a quieter vibe more like that of the Hamptons in general. There is one big difference, though: in Carmel, they let you on the beach.

Is Kansas City more like Chicago or Memphis?
