Probably LA. Big Asian populations, mountains, large undeveloped natural areas in the city limits, and much milder climates than Miami.

Is Spokane more similar to Seattle or Portland?

That's tough since Portland and Seattle are similar. I'll go with Portland since it's closest in size to Spokane. Which is more similar to Oakland; Detroit for Newark?

I think Newark. They are both satellite cities of a major metro city. Detroit IS the core of the metro. Newark and Oakland also have similar demographics, I believe. They're also both across a body of water from the principal metro city.

Which is more similar to Laurel, MS? Portland, OR or The Dalles, OR?

The Dalles, closer in size. Which is more similar to Columbia MO; Rochester MN or Iowa City IA?

Iowa City. Columbia's the largest of the three, but Missouri's closer in character to Iowa than Minnesota.

Until Mizzou bolted the Big 12 for the SEC, however, the Iowa school it played regularly was located in Ames.

Which is more like Lawrence, Kan.: Ann Arbor, Mich., or Champaign, Ill.?

Okay I have to know what was going on with this one lol. Why would anyone possibly choose Portland? Or was the question supposed to be whether Portland or Laurel is more similar to the Dalles?

Ann Arbor. Both are more liberal than Urbana-Champaign, their counties went 14 and 13 points (respectively) more for Hillary in 2016 than Champaign County did. They also both have a more organically urban feel, Urbana-Champaign feels like some developer just plunked down some high-rises in a random small Midwestern town and called it a city.

Is Pittsburgh more similar to Houston or Denver?

I'd go with Denver. Closer in size and right by a mountain chain.

Is Portland, OR more similar to Cincinnati or Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh. It’s not as liberal as PDX, but it’s more liberal than Cincinnati’s and its whiter as well.

Is Grand Rapids, MI more similar to Rochester, NY or Buffalo, NY?

Is St. Louis more similar to Louisville, KY or Richmond, VA?

I'd say Louisville. They're closer to each other in distance and culturally. Which is more similar to Wichita KS; Springfield MO or Lincoln NB?

I'd say Lincoln, even though it's farther away. Wichita doesn't have as strong a Bible Belt/Appalachian influence as Springfield does — it's more farmers and cowboys.

Which is more like Memphis, New Orleans or Kansas City?
