Boston was primarily picked it because of Kraft's deep ties to FIFA, not because it's a great stadium and for sure not from a logistical standpoint as Gillette is almost the same distance from Boston as Baltimore's M&T Bank is from DC.
..... Kraft
This is nonsense. The Patriots sell out 66,000 seats 8 or 9 home games per year. Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney concerts were more than 100,000. It’s just another event in Foxborough. I’ve been to lots of Patriots games.

It’s not a bad stadium to watch a soccer match.
Kraft might not be why Boston (Foxboro) won, (Eg maybe they could have won without him) but he is why they absolutely were not going to lose.
There were 11 US cities picked, like 50 have suitable venues. Its really not about who can host.
That's not true. NYC had Giants Stadium back then which was more than adequate. I was at the World Cup in 1994 at Giants Stadium as a 17 yr old watching Ireland-Italy. Really no place on Earth better to be Irish and/or Italian than the Tri-State and the Stadium was electric! The tailgate and atmosphere everywhere in the area was rocking. The "new" stadium, not that it's really new anymore is Meh. But it serves the needs of the corporate sponsors, etc.
There is an article in the WSJ that says FIFA doesn't really want a west coast team to hold the final, plus LA's stadium would require renovations because the pitch area is too small. It says that JerryWorld has the same issue but Jerry Jones assured FIFA that he was willing to cover any expense to get the Final. Thus, NYC and Arlington are going head to head for the Final.
Another interesting tidbit in the article is that Miami's bid to host was one of the worst submitted and they were actually on the bubble... like they didn't even try. But in the end they got in anyway based on their history of holding super bowls.

It's about marketing the sport. There are 15 million people in New England and it's very affluent. When push comes to shove, it's all about money. I spend money to stream soccer. ESPN+, Paramount+, Peacock+, and Sling to get USA Network. FIFA and the professional leagues care about the high cost of living markets in the United States where they have the potential to make the most money. The big surprise to me was no DC.

Find that very hard to believe. Stephen Ross usually gets what he wants and part of his $500 million renovation of Hard Rock Stadium was to meet FIFA standard. In fact, Miami has been working extra hard to secure a semi final or finals slot.

LA is a time zone problem for Europe. A 3pm Eastern start time would be prime time in Europe. That's where the television revenue is coming from.

Hasn’t stopped tournaments such as El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona from being held in the past in July (2017) or the International Cup, featuring Manchester United and Bayern Munich a year later, also in July

"Miami, in particular, was far from a lock after people close to the process said that its bid left many officials unimpressed. Its presentation to the FIFA panel had none of the pizazz the city is known for or the thoroughness of other candidate cities, according to several people in attendance.
The FIFA inspectors were initially stunned, those people said, since Miami has spent the past few years focused on making the city’s sports offering more global, driven in large part by the Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. In 2019, the Miami Open tennis tournament grew in stature with a move from Boca Raton to the Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. And this year, the venue was at the heart of a Formula One circuit for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.
But when it came to the World Cup, Miami seemed to assume that it would get in almost automatically, on the basis of its large international population and its experience in hosting Super Bowls, people who saw the presentation said. As it turned, the city was right."
