Florida vs Hawaii - No contest from me. I prefer Hawaii in almost every facet except cost of living.

New York vs Virginia - New York wins comfortably. It has better bigger cities (carried heavily by NYC), more small cities/towns that I like, better mountains, and a better climate. Virginia is better on the coastal front having a good deal more (particularly unspoiled) coastline, but that's not enough to take it.

California vs North Carolina - Another blowout. There's very little I'd prefer in NC apart from the cost of living.

Colorado vs Maine - Tough one for me. Maine's coast is great and Colorado doesn't have one. But that's where the advantage for ME ends as far as I'm concerned. I love (and have lived in) Portland, but Maine has nothing comparable to Denver. Boulder vs. Portland would actually be a good head-to-head. They're very different in many ways, but they're actually quite comparable in size and there's some definite cultural overlap there (particularly the outdoorsy/earthy/crunchy elements). And as much as I love the mountains of Maine, this one's no contest. Rockies by a mile.

Florida vs Hawaii - not even close, bro. The one thing Florida is awesome at is slaughtered by Hawaii in that same category.

New York vs Virginia - this one is tough. NYC is just too much though.

California vs North Carolina - while California has everything, it's just gotten too wacky and expensive, and NC is a nice balanced state, with great beaches, incredible universities and college basketball. Going with the underdog here.

Colorado vs Maine - it physically hurts me to make a choice on this one. But I gotta give the West a rep in the Final Four.

Florida vs Hawaii - Florida is a cesspool.

New York vs Virginia - Great states, but New York offers more across the board.

California vs North Carolina - Easy

Colorado vs Maine - Go Maine. Such a great state.

My picks:

Florida (hated voting for Florida but Hawaii just seems so uninteresting and one dimensional to me)

New York (it is rare that I vote against VA on anything but New York state is really beautiful and is home to the most dynamic city in the USA)

California (undeniably beautiful state and Los Angeles and San Francisco? You kidding me? Pretty hard to beat).

Maine (CO is probably the most overrated state in the country)
