The best part about reading this is the complete and total homerism out of the New Yorkers…The majority have clearly not tried a Chicago dog…..ewww all that stuff just give me ketchup….people hot dogs aren't filet's. Chicago dogs simply enhance the flavor of the dog by adding onions, sport peppers (makes it hot), mustard, tomatoes, a pickle and some neon relish…..oh and some celery salt. You can still taste the dog, you just get all the sweet and hot flavors added to the great taste of the dog.
Don't forget that the Chicago area has a huge german population going up through wisconsin, I know you New Yorkers don't believe life exists beyond staten island, but the hot dog is a german creation and Chicago and the midwest as a whole is dominated by germans/polish……I've had those plain water dogs in New York, not bad….but it really isn't even close, the beef of a vienna dog is far superior…. I know the New Yorkers can't handle it.
Gimme a chicago dog with boots on em and a coke……fries are thrown in unless you say otherwise
GENE AND JUDES OR SUPERDAWG should be the real thread question
Gene and Judes tastes much better than Superdawg, but Superdawg has a great atmosphere.
But I don't like how Gene and Judes doesn't have ketchup for fries, and the Mcdonalds charges for ketchup packets.
I own a New York sightseeing company - New York Tours: FamilyInNewYork.com We take hundreds of people from all over the world to Katz's Deli every year. Hands down, the world agrees, Katz's has the best hot dogs!

Lol we have on here in Detroit so I can co-sign with this
I'm having a great time while I'm here, but the hot dogs (atleast from the street vendors) are not up to par.
No offence, but eating hot dogs from street vendors is the equivalent of going to Chicago and ordering a McDonalds' dollar menu or whatever and saying food in Chicago sucks. I live very close to the original Coney Island Nathan's Famous and its like you stabbed my soul.
I would like to visit Chicago someday, since my dad was born there and lived there for a few years before settling in Central Texas. That's why we've seemed to be fans of Chicago teams - Bears, Cubs, Bulls, even Blackhawks last year..
When I went to New York, I really hated it. Our meals included a $46 bill for Olive Garden, (twice as much as the bill in Texas) a pizza in which we had to stand up eating because the dining room upstairs was being mopped, and a restaurant in which everyone hurried you to get your food. I have to honestly say, the $1 hot dog I bought on the street corner was the best meal I had in NYC.

Look I've committed the same crime as you, eating at Olive Garden in NYC. Yes I know I'm guilty, but I worked for Darden at the time and my friends wanted to use my discount since they (and I) would never pay full price for that. I'm not trying to be mean but if the best meal you had in NY was a hot dog, then you really missed out.
