I'll leave it at that. Tampa & Orlando need to kiss and make up since Obama is giving us a fast choo-choo to share. Tpa/Orl could be the next great pair like Milo & Otis, coke & rehab, or Sigfreid & Roy (cept Tampa gets mauled by tiger).
That is why when people want to put Tampa ahead of Orlando I'm like why? They will merge soon. The cities are fine with one another. The people interact with each other more than people who are not from here think.
Sorry to double post but Tampa has done very well with Channelside and and the TECO street cars are pretty sweet. Do they run late enough to be your DD back if you went out in Ybor and say lived in a Channelside condo ??
Here are its operating hours. The hard core drinkers might need to get a ride, or walk, but most people will be good.

lets face it. if orlando never had disney, we might not even be referring to it as a major city
I hate when people say that. Who cares about the what ifs. We are talking about what IS, not what could have been. Yes Disney helped Orlando become what it is today, but Orlando was a growing city of almost 100,000 people before Disney came. thats just the city limits not the metro. Orlando has grown to be much more than Disney. The city had 48 million visitors last year, Magic kingdom had 17 million visitors. Orlando has diversified its economy over the years and its still diversifying. Its not just Disney.
I agree with almost everything except Orlando having just as much history as Tampa. Does Orlando have a national historic landmark district like Ybor city? Face it, when Henry Plant first brought the railroad to Tampa, and built the Tampa Bay hotel (now University of Tampa), back when Tampa was the cigar capital of the world and immigrants were poring into West Tampa and Ybor city, and the port of Tampa was first bustling, Orlando was a backwater town that no one had heard of until the 60s when Disney came in.
Your right, Tampa does has the edge when it come to History. Though I wouldn't say Orlando was a backwater town that no one heard about, it was actually a fairly well known tourist destination in the early 1900's.
Wiki:
"Orlando, as Florida's largest inland city, became a popular resort during the years between the Spanish-American War and World War I. In the 1920s, Orlando experienced extensive housing development during the Florida Land Boom. Land prices soared. During this period several neighborhoods in downtown were constructed, endowing it with many bungalows."
But I agree with everyone else. I love both of these cities. People in Orlando and Tampa interact with each other more than most people realize, and when this train is built it will help create our mega region. Maybe Orlampa will finally be a reality. haha. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orlampa,_Florida

Ok, maybe it wasnt really backwater. But its was Disney in the 60s that put Orlando on the map.

I just wanted to point out what a great & civil rivalry the "War on I-4" has been, very opposite of most CD threads. Go look at any other same state City vs. City thread like Houston vs. Dallas or whatever. The put downs and insults make commenting in favor of your city a dangerous practice. Even though there have been some attacks in this thread on civic matters like skyline, metro, etc., there haven't been many personal attacks. Maybe we're nicer to each other out of respect for sharing the same crappy interstate. I feel that places like Houston & Dallas are too far apart location, culture, and community wise to share such common ground. You'll never hear somebody from Texas refer to the super region of "Hou-allas" or "Dal-ston," they just don't exist. Even in the northeast corridor where the cities have formed a megalopolis, there is much mud slinging, name calling, and outright hatred between places like Boston & NYC. Maybe it's because we don't have any major sports rivalry. Orlando has the NBA & Tampa has the other three, MLB, NFL, & NHL. Yes, having only one pro sports team is a major shortcoming for Orlando, however I'm glad that we have the NBA which is my favorite.
So let the good times roll for now. One day Orlando will pick up another major sports franchise and the warm & fuzzies might fade somewhat. Until then we can pretend to dislike each other and watch some arena football, Go Preds!!
