Texas will be fine with recruits no matter where they go. Even if they are independent, they won't have a problem recruiting. In Texas high schools... kids think this way:
1. Can I go to Texas?
2. If not, where else close to home can I go that is still a good program?
Texas gets first pick. Nothing will ever change that.
It most certainly could change, and has in the past. Look what happened when David McWilliams was the HC. When John Mackovic was the HC, no defensive star wanted to play for Texas.
Schools that are normally very good, like Michigan and Notre Dame, have down periods. Recruiting doesn't fall off immediately, but if the downturn lasts 2-3 years or more, recruits WILL choose other schools.

I don't think Texas is going to make that mistake again, and from the looks of things "we" will be continuing with the upper level of recruiting for the foreseeable future.
Look how A&M recruited for their most recent golden years. If they're going to compete in the SEC, that's the route they'll have to take again. Sorry, but that's not my cuppa tea.
When A&M gets hammered year in & year out in the SEC, do you really think blue chippers will crave to play for a perennial 6-6 team that rarely gets a bowl win?
Kinda embarassing for them,, as THEY are the ones who started this whole departure from the Big XII thing, but got no takers.
Yeah, Missouri is definitely not happy with the state of things. If they bolt this whole conference hopping soap opera could start up again at any time...lol.
By mulling I think they mean "preparing for a televised acceptance and impromptu rally".
It won't be long till they add 3 more teams when Mizzou takes off. WERE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER!!!
Hello UH, Rice, SMU.
If we do go back to 12 (my preference too), I would love to see an East/West instead of regurgitated Big 12 North/South. East/West would balance the Big 12....it's been all too South-centric from the jump. Sooners have dominated too much and having the Horns in the same division while separating OU from the Cornhuskers was a horrible decision.
East/West would take care of this and balance the Oklahoma and Texas teams in different divisions. OU/Texas could still be in the same division if that is the only way to solve the Red River Shootout and potential rematch dilemma in a conference title game.
I'm not sure about SMU/Houston....maybe, maybe Houston. I don't know. The Big 12 is such a downgraded conference compared to what it used to be....but it is what it is.
So...assuming Missouri leaves, here's my thinking on the potential teams and divisions of the New Big 12 East/West
Big 12 East
West Virginia
Louisville
Iowa State
Kansas
Oklahoma State
Texas Christian University
Big 12 West
Baylor
Brigham Young
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Texas Tech
Texas
^^^ That looks like a good plan to me Bass & Catfish, assuming that Mizzou leaves.
