Anything beyond 10 days is always ripe for error. However, in the short term (6 to 10) there is no below normal cold anywhere in the lower 48. Most of the cold air is staying up in Canada.

Cam, any idea of when that might change?
Was it a surprise for December? We could of been rich predicting this past decade.

Facsinating how December can't be cold and snowy anymore.

Let me guess....... March and April Cold and Snowy.

And being I want March to be Spring like and well above normal that means I only have 2 months of winter to enjoy now. January and February

There does seem to be something showing up in the next Mon/Tue time frame, but the models seem to be all over the place with where they put the storm and when. GFS seems to take it well east of the East Coast with no precip at all for anywhere on the East Coast, and later (tue-Wed) rather than Mon?

In the shorter term, IF the forecast holds, a NICE weekend is ahead, dry, sunny, light winds, and temps a few degrees above normal. Our normal high now is 46 F - but we could see 50 F on both Sat and Sunday. Should be good weekend for outdoor activities.

Is it time to give up...or too soon???

I want March to be warm and spring like, that leaves just 2 months left to be true winter

There is nothing happening 2 weeks but the pattern doesn't seem like it did back in November so it could go longer.. Jet stream isn't dipping. Snow cover is scant and no deep cold in Northern Hemisphere.

It would take a month for anything to happen. Hope I'm wrong but not looking good.

Time to wave the flag?

So far, as least locally in the Tri-State area, December 2023 has been fairly close to normal. If you look at the departures, it's not as if we have had days that were 10 to 20 F above normal. In fact only 1 day (Dec 10th) had a double-digit temp departure:

Bridgeport:

Look at today...the normal high at Bridgeport is 45 F, the normal low 31 F. Bridgeport hit 46 F today, and the low last night was 34 F. So we really are not too far off normal. The normal monthly snowfall is only 5.5 inches at Bridgeport (and we still have half the month left). I think the media's non-stop hype of winter/snow on the East Coast creates unrealestic expactions, and makes people think it's been so much milder than it has been.

Yeah, On January 16, 2016 we had the perfect strong NorEaster track and yet.... No Phase. No Cold! Snow missed to our north. Finally December 23rd we got a foot of snow. Mid February Historic and rare Cold. Record Lows, Record Low Max.

Out of the past 11 winters, January was the snowiest in only 1 of those. And December only once.
