Ricky Shelton's Facebook posting two hours ago:

These ridiculous, frivolous delays by this group is costing the city a significant loss of jobs and tax dollar revenue. This very important retail development will bring several great new stores (Publix, Academy Sports) and restaurants (Panera) that our citizens overwhelming want, create more than 600 new jobs, generate millions of dollars in new tax revenue and environmentally protect 34 acres of important wet lands. I'm committed to making sure this happens for our citizens, city and region.

Mayor Shelton was in the studio with Sheila Scruggs on 95.9 this morning and encouraged city residents to show up for the TDEC meeting on May 3 to voice their support for this shopping center. As he pointed out, Cookeville's head city engineer and vice mayor are both members of the Sierra Club and are baffled that the national Sierra Club has a problem with this development. He also pointed out that the success of this shopping center will go a long way towards luring Target and other retailers to town.

Wait...does this mean that the National Chapter is now involved? I thought the injunction was brought to court by the Tennessee Chapter....

Oops, no you're right. State chapter, not national chapter.

I saw the copyright 2014 as well. Not sure what that implies but it was added to CBLs website Friday. Their website was probably built in 2014. They are a recent added partner to the project, this is not dated information.

The Sierra Club is not giving up. In today's H-C print edition (not in their online edition, unfortunately) is an article that the Sierra Club sent a letter to the TDEC demanding that the hearing be rescheduled because there was an error in the public notice.

What a bunch of buffoons. The Sierra Club said the error was the "permit number" while TDEC says no, it was just a file number that has nothing to do with the public notice. In the same letter, the Sierra Club says that the signs that Browning Development posted at the development site are "located on an undivided four lane section of Walnut Avenue" and are therefore not legible because the only place to pull over to see the signs is at a nearby church parking lot (the Mormon church). Seriously? First of all, Walnut Avenue is 3 lanes, not 4 lanes, meaning there's a center turn lane where a car can stop to view the signs which is what I did. Secondly, there's a sidewalk along Walnut Avenue, and the signs are posted adjacent to the sidewalk. All someone has to do, if he really wants to see the sign, is walk down the sidewalk. UGH.

I hope people show up en masse to voice their support for the shopping center and to show their disgust for the Sierra Club. And I hope the TDEC will see through the Sierra Club's shenanigans and vote to approve the development.
