How do you figure it would be justified?

Nope I would have intervened in this situation especially after threatening the kid. Woman or not, this was out of control, and even if all I ended up doing was just giving the lady and her child a chance to escape that would be plenty for me. If she was really in danger of losing her job over a mistake than she has either done it multiple times before or is a trouble maker in other areas as well, because mistakes happen and I highly doubt a manager would have given a serious talk over a simple mistake like that, so she has no reason to fly off the handle on a lady and her 2 year old child.

The woman who was assaulted speaks out, here are a few of the things she said about the incident

Ms Ferreira explained to NJ.com that she used to work at the same Salem McDonald’s as Harris.
Two or three weeks ago, she stopped by the eatery to chat with some of her former colleagues, and at one point Ferreira made an off-hand remark about Latia Harris' alleged romantic relationship with her supervisor.
According to Ferreira, the 25-year-old overheard her comment and became upset. In the weeks that followed, Harris kept calling her and saying that she could get fired over the bit of gossip.

and this was the clincher for me

Speaking of her attacker, who is currently being sought by police on assault charges, Ferreira broke down in tears, saying she felt sorry for her because the woman has two children.

Wow, she can actually feel bad for the woman who assaulted her. I feel bad for that woman's kids as well. I assume they are on the run with their crazy mother

(you might not like this comment, but it's true, Latia will be elevated and portrayed as a victim of society. It ain't be her fault.)

In NJ a 28 year old mother and her 2 year old son went to Mcdonalds and she got him a kids meal. Before leaving she realized she never got a toy and asked the manager for one. Apparently the manager then scolded the employee (Latia Harris, 25) for incorrectly doing her job. The employee then ran outside and jumped the mother while her son was right next to her. A bunch of others stood around doing nothing but screaming "oh hhh!" And filming to on their phones. The two year old tries helping his mom by screaming at the other woman then kicking her to go away when his mom was on the ground and the woman was kicking her head.

This has to be the most heartbreaking thing. How is it nobody helped? A two year old has more guts and morality than anyone else there.

Public fights are spectator sports, this bully mentality started in the school yard. Today's added attraction is the viral video, sadly grown women, including moms have jumped into the fray.

Or they just have a shootout in some obvious uncontrollable rage and now we have a dead 2 year old. I always get a kick out of the gun nuts living in fantasy land. There are shootouts daily in every big city in the US every single day. They both know everyone is armed, but there are still shootouts. No one was killed in this sick video, but if they both had guns, maybe a bunch of people would be killed with bullets flying all over the place. People like this thug women don't care of the other person is armed. She clearly doesn't think. Do you really feel someone like her should own a gun? Really?

It might be a big part of the reason why people didn't step in to stop the attack. Guns are everywhere. People who get involved can't be sure they know what's going on, or that they won't get shot for getting involved.

The McDonalds was at least partly at fault. It was their fault that they hired the crazy woman.

Why is everyone sure nobody called 911? How would you know they didn't?

The best solution, in line with how we solve our problems in our society, would be to make it a felony to omit the toy from a Happy Meal.
