These cops need a boxing ring set up at the station instead of a break room.
Make it mandatory that once a week they sign up for one hour of non-stop boxing.
Put two of them in there and tell them to ''have at it'' until they get all their aggression out.
Or lay off the caffeine, sugar, and Red Bull while on patrol.

Patrick Lynch, president of the police union, said, "We agree with the police commissioner that the first story is never the whole story and believe that placing this officer on modified duty is premature and unwarranted. No police officer should ever face punitive action before a complete review of the facts."
Did the officer not ask Blake for ID before apprehending him? If he did and Blake resisted in providing ID, then i don't see anything wrong with tackling Blake. However, if he just went by the face and tackled him without any identification being asked, then the officer should be fired.

No one is considering the possibility that me have tackled James Blake the way that he did to give himself the tactical advantage in making a Felony arrest. We have no idea whether or not the cop was informed that the "criminal" was known to carry weapons or had a laundry list of violent encounters with the police. Those types of possibilites have to be taken into consideration.
People seem to ignore the fact that what Blake was accused of was a felonious crime. It doesn't have to be a "violent crime" being committed because it is highly likely that any felony is being committed by a potential violent criminal.
Check the NYPD's list of 7 major felony crimes; credit card fraud falls within the definition of Grand Larceny, right next to Robbery, Burglary, Rape and Murder.
It isn't like Jaywalking or Obstructing Traffic with a vehicle, where the officer approaches you questions you and then proceeds to ID you and summons you for a violation.
Felonies are approached and handled very differently. They apprehend first, then they question you. It's for the safety of the officer, the people around him and the criminal himself.

I wouldn't hold the law suits and complaints against him for the simple fact that he is a plainclothes officer. Chances are, that he is an Anti-Crime cop which specifically targets felony arrests.
Anti-Crime cops are generally involved in extremely dangerous work, and more often than not they have to put their hands on people very quickly which increases the likely hood that someone would make a complaint.
You're wrong but I'm curious, where did you get all your information about police procedures?
The Policeman had only four years experience. The NYPD does not seem to retain it's older officers. Perhaps, that is the problem?
That could contribute to it, but usually this kind of behavior comes from a commander, asst. chief or chief either ignoring it or tacitly condoning it.

He is past his probationary period. He cant be fired without a hearing. The police department has 18 months to file administrative charges against him. Mr Blake can say he wants to have this police officer fired all he wants. It will not happen. Yes he will have some administrative punishment but he will not be fired.
Mr. Blake should file a $50 million lawsuit against the city and police and either take the payout if the incompetent cop stays on the force or give the payout the charity if the cop loses his gun and job.
Who knows why he was approached by one cop. We don't know the particular details of how he spotted Blake. IMO he may have instantaneously spotted him and decided to get him before he could slip away. Who knows.
5 complaints? Who knows, Weren't 4 of the 5 unsubstantiated? Anyone can file a complaint for any reason.
If a police officer hands you a ticket for double parking without a smile, yes you can file a complaint and it will have to be followed up on and reviewed. That's not to be flippant, but people who are being disciplined by a cop can feel as if they aren't being treated fairly.
The fact that he has had 5 complaints in 4 years after making over 150 arrests doesn't seem to hold much weight in my eyes, it actually speaks to his favor.
And you can lie and say anything and file a complaint and there is no penalty for it. Anyone can file a lawsuit as well for any reason. The NYPD is notorious for getting lawsuits and making settlements for just about anything.
And apparently you can assault law abiding citizens for "unsubstantiated" reasons, without identifying yourself as a cop, fail to follow procedure in reporting it, and still be assumed faultless, at least by you.
By not admiting that this cop handled this situation badly, you degrade the trust regular people have with all cops. Not being able to trust the police leads to more incidents which endanger the public and police.
For gods sake, admit that this officer so we can have some faith in the system. Hell, even Brantton apologized for this cops behavior. If the blue wall continues to exist, even is situations where it was obvious the officer choose the least wise course of action, people will continue to lose faith and trust in the police. Which endangers everyone.
I'm sure a few of the usual authoritarian apologists will be along soon to explain that it never would have happened if he hadn't gone out in public in the first place.
I am normally a staunch supporter of LE, but in this case there is no question the cop was absolutely wrong and should not be a cop any more. The guy was just standing there, minding his own business, and was attacked violently. No excuse whatsoever. Hope he sues the pants off of NY and the cop.
