Did the dad know it's an officer, not any random guy trying to enter?
A lot of incidents where cops shoot at the sight of gun without knowing the situation.
Otherwise, a tragic incident.

Losing a place to live in the middle of winter when you are 57 y.o., and selling your arse is tough, is stressful, it is double stressful when you have a young kid in your custody. The cop should have anticipated that a 57 y.o. would be stressed out just enough to do stupid things. Cops should anticipate and/or de-escalate mundane situations like these, but after reading CD forums most of them believe they are paid to kill/shoot at the slightest sign of trouble. Are you immune of stress and doing stupid things?
He "lost" his place because he wasn't paying rent. Period. The landlord had every right to evict this guy. Kid or no kid, you pay for your housing or you are evicted. The landlord is NOT a charity. And eviction being a very long and drawn out process, this guy had plenty of opportunity to remedy the situation.

Stress or no stress, pulling a gun on the person evicting you is stupid. And sometimes stupid gets somebody killed.

Cops go through mundane situations millions of times, with no violence. Yet, when then are met with a direct threat (yes, pointing a gun directly at a cop IS a threat. Not "stress". Not "mundane". A threat.) they will respond. But the media will fixate on the one time a moron decides to threaten a cop, not the millions of times the cop handles the situation with nobody getting hurt.

Should that cop have waited until they are actually shot before they fired? It's kind of hard to de-escalate a situation where you're being directly threatened with being shot. Or already dead.

I'm sure you get your information about the "life of cops" from MSM, but domestic calls are THE most dangerous calls for a cop. They often have a split second to decide if they are the one going home in a body bag or the person they are calling on is. Cops have families they want to return to, also. Why do you insist on blaming the cop for wanting to live through the encounter?

Once again, an easily avoided situation. All the man had to do was answer the door WITHOUT A GUN POINTED AT THE COP. Then, his daughter would be alive. I feel bad for the child, who had the bad misfortune of having this idiot as a father.

completely the father's fault to try and blame the constable is typical. The officer had no choice but to shoot or be shot. It's sad that the girl died but it's all because of her POS father. Now that cop has to live knowing he killed a little girl.

You have to serve it in person, otherwise the person can deny ever receiving it.

Maybe you can offer the guy a place to live when he gets out of jail and you can bond over how disgusting it is to expect people to pay for what they buy and how cool it is to point guns at people when you have no business doing so.

The constable's aim was fine. He hit the idiot dad, however, the bullet passed through his arm and killed the child.

Terribly sad story, but the father is at fault.

The title of the article sure tries to paint a different story than what happened.
Yep, gotta sexy it up for the ratings.

Why not?
It's inside your home.
How do you know who's knocking on the door from inside?

He slid rifle into view? What's view? A hole on the door?
Did he know it was an officer?
Was it at night or daytime?

On Monday, Pennsylvania State Constable Clarke Steele was serving an eviction notice to Donald Meyer, 57, in Penn Township when Meyer slid a .223-caliber rifle into view and pointed it at Steele's chest, Pennsylvania State Police said.

"shoot at the slightest sign of trouble" & "de-escalate mundane situations like these"

This is arguably the finest example I've read around here of someone crafting a narrative different from reality so that it fits in their worldview.

I mean it's so "out there" that I don't think you even realize what you're doing.

I can only imagine what life experience or past event(s) has set you on a path where you have to wildly change what happened in your mind in order to still blame the officer.
