14 months-that's so exciting Charlie! We will be down again in June, hopefully the 2 new models will be done in Longacre Village. Our house will be on the market then, & who knows! Wishing everyone a happy holiday & enjoy the beauty of spring!

Thanks for sharing the link, RDLR. When I was looking at the various 55+ communities, I didn't care much for Barclay Farms (as compared to other communities) but I do like the way they are approaching this issue. Best of luck to them. I hope it works out for all who live there.

Having done so much research, you know these 55+ communities very well. Barclay Farms has such an organized group of residents, and I think their website indicates that.

I second that.....Best of Luck to Them!

I seem to remember that Wild Meadows was also a very organized and active community. At the time, they used to have candidates nights and attended the local governmental meetings. Since making my own choice of community, I've not watched the others as closely. I do hope to be involved in my community and in the county as I get settled in.

Hope I am not asking something has been covered earlier in your (our) conversations but I was wondering if anyone has had trouble with someone renting a unit to someone with a minor child (age 12) and how you dealt with it. There is some thought that this is legal because of something called the 80% rule (that anyone can live in a 55+ community as long as 80 % of the units are lived in by 55+. That doesn't sound right tome but some lawyer says its is. Some Lawyers will say anything as long as they are being paid. DOes anyone ahve any thoughts or information about this. Thanks, Frank

Hi All,
Just got back from a week in Lewes, De and looking at several condo communites from Milton to Rehoboth. Since little eggplant is renting a condo in Lewes while her home is being built at CC - we got together at at Irish Eyes in downtown Lewes for lunch on Saturday the 16th.

It is such fun to meet people I only know through City data! We had a great lunch and chat and then I was on my way to the realtor to pick up my keys to a condo rental in Plantations and little eggplant and hubby were planning a trip up to CC for a dinner being given at CC Saturday night.

Little eggplant, I made it to the condo, unloaded my gear and settled in before the thunderstorm and lightning arrived - hope you made it up to CC and back for your dinner! It was a wild stormy night and I was very glad I was not on the road during the storm.

No internet for a week - so as soon as I catch up with my emails and get unpacked I will post again about my trip and my impressions of the various condo communitites and Bay Crossing which is a 55+ community in Lewes, DE.

Knowing you, I'm not surprised. Kudos to you!

Update on my search for Condos in the Lewes DE area-

This trip to Lewes, DE ( my third) I worked with a realtor (buyer's agent). I am not scheduled to retire for another 2 yrs and 8 months (who's counting) so I was not too sure how willing a realtor would be in getting me into see some of the condos. I wanted to see vacant condos because I am not an immediate buyer - and did not to disturb an owner.

I have been corresponding with a realtor who's territory is Dover and points south. I am on his list to send me weekly updates on available properties in my price range and towns of interest. I have been getting his emails for about a year and it has helped me to track the market in the Lewes area.

He was quite willing to take an afternoon to show me any and all condo communities of interest and to take me on a walk thru of one or more vacant units in each community. I did drive by's of about 10 communites on Sunday and narrowed down my interest to three or four. On Monday he took me around to each community of interest to see the actual units. ( A report on my impressions of each community to come in a separate post.)

I think using a buyer's agent is extremely helpful in narrowing down your search and his knowledge of the communities in the area was invaluable. I appreciated his willingness to take me to see the various condos even though I am not an immediate buyer. I am happy to pass along his contact information if you are interested in a home south of Dover. Just PM me for his contact information. I would recommend getting on his email list if you want to get weekly updates of homes that have just come on the market in a particular area. Not only do you see what has just come on the market, the list allows you to track any price changes and how long it is on the market before it is sold.
