My entire family absolutely loves Trump. They are all conservative, right-wing, Fox News loving people. I am the only one in my entire family, except for a few others, who is a progressive Democrat who absolutely loves Bernie and voted for Clinton.
With that said, I dread going to Thanksgiving next week.
My dad ALWAYS has a way of bringing up politics in a way that provokes me and it always leads into huge, loud, long arguments and causes a scene in front of everyone. I was thinking of not even going, especially because Hillary lost.
It's always myself versus a SEA of crazy conservatives, and they literally believe in every Fox News thing you could imagine. Everything.
Just do what I did. I let everyone know this week that if any political arguments start (in either direction), I'm leaving and going home to drink beer and watch football.
I do have an out anyway, as the Colts have a home game Thanksgiving night and I have to leave early to go tailgate and go to the game.
My brother would not agree to come to Txgiving unless I promised him there would be no Trump supporters there! Actually a few of my husband's family members who usually attend won't be withis this year, so we're in the clear.
That said, though, I have to deal with some left wing zealots during Thanksgiving family gatherings. I live. So will you. We have gotten better about not discussing politics, though.
My brother (Hillary supporter) has been calling our parents a bigot behind their back, because they voted for Trump. He can't give any specific examples of their bigotry - except for voting for Trump.
He has told my sister that our mother shouldn't be near his daughters due to being a poor women role model since she voted for Trump. She babysat his girls and saved them tons of money when they were growing up.
He is a stereotypical close-minded and overly emotional worst kind of liberal and he continually ruins family gatherings.
He isn't attending our family Thanksgiving and it is for the best.
Wow that sucks but you should have grown some thick skinned being around these boards lately, but I have to deal with my bro that is way to the left if you know what I mean (like Trump and Hillary are basically the same capitalist blah blah blah....). We don't really discuss politics for that same reason but then again how can you not talk about this election, that's what I am dreading this Thanksgiving.

Try to take the high road, say you will give Trump a chance and knock the wind out of any argument before it starts. Don't let him keep going and stir up the fire inside you. It's a pretty crappy thing to do to try to bring up political divisions during a family holiday in my opinion. I didn't vote for Hillary or Trump and I don't expect any political discussions to come up. My family is also quite conservative except for a few younger cousins and 1 uncle.
