My brother would not agree to come to Txgiving unless I promised him there would be no Trump supporters there! Actually a few of my husband's family members who usually attend won't be withis this year, so we're in the clear.
Politics and alcohol do not mix!
I would have told my brother that he is being immature and ignorant. We do not choose our friends, family and invited guests by their personal political choices, we also do not allow someone else to dictate who may or may not be a guest in our home and my brother would have stayed home if he felt that way.
We also do not use *an out* to not go somewhere, if we do not want to go we do not go, there is no reason to lie or make excuses to not do something whether family is involved or not. There is nothing wrong with saying that you want to stay home this time and be done with the conversation.
Thanksgiving with a house full of Herr Drumpf's adoring minions. You have my sympathy. Have you considered the benefits of mood-altering drugs?
Yep, this would be my remedy, too. See if you can take a nice road trip to Colorado or Washington in the next few days. If not, there's always liquor.
I'm profoundly grateful that my entire family, with the one exception of a rightwing BIL (who loathes Trump, BTW, so rightwing but not stupid ) are like-minded. And no doubt, the vino will be flowing freely with my famiglia this year. Most likely we will skip politics all together and just talk about the Cubs.
My entire family absolutely loves Trump. They are all conservative, right-wing, Fox News loving people. I am the only one in my entire family, except for a few others, who is a progressive Democrat who absolutely loves Bernie and voted for Clinton..
How sad that you see everyone in your family in terms of false political labels and deride those you don't agree with.
We were told not to talk about Trump or wear shirts that say anything about him by FIL (we weren't even planning on it). Why can't liberals handle life?
Holiday dinners should be a time for family and friends to bond; not a time to create hurt and hostility. If they are unwilling or unable to keep politics out of the discussion, I would make other plans. I don't even allow the TV to be on during dinner. I hear one word coming out of Trump's mouth and my blood pressure goes up; but then, I felt that way about him for decades before he ran for president. Tell the family, thanks but no thanks.

Maybe spending some time around normal, intelligent Americans will do you some good. Are you wearing your safety pin?
My family is the same way. The only difference is that my sister-in-law is the only one who is a bleeding heart liberal. She is very emotional sometimes, so we all end up comforting her.
In all honesty, I don't think arguing about politics with family members is really worth it. When she becomes emotional, I just say, "uh huh, I see what you mean, interesting. Oh okay.."
