The purpose of family is to teach us how to be polite around people who aren't.

I have the opposite problem ... I wanted Trump to win (but not a conservative myself necessarily) and it's maybe a good thing I'm skipping Thanksgiving this time so I don't have to listen to the more liberal members of my family whine about Trump the whole day.

My dad ALWAYS has a way of bringing up politics in a way that provokes me and it always leads into huge, loud, long arguments and causes a scene in front of everyone. I was thinking of not even going, especially because Hillary lost.

It's always myself versus a SEA of crazy conservatives, and they literally believe in every Fox News thing you could imagine. Everything.
Sounds like a great family.....how'd that happen in Connecticut?

I don't try to steer how my kids vote actually, that's their decision and if they disagree with me, not worth fighting over imo.

Ask your dad if he is still proud he voted for Trump after seeing the list of crooked establishment nominees for his various cabinet positions.

Only liberals have this problem. Only liberals will sacrifice relationships with family members over politics. It's really sad and pathetic. Actually it's sickening.

I have the opposite experience to look forward to on Thanksgiving. At the dinner table will be 3 Phds all Ivied and rabid liberals, now sore from the election. Politics will inevitably come up at some point during the evening. There will be long rants on historical similarities to epochs from the past. Outcomes discussed and agreement shared by all.

I will be laughing to myself throughout it all. When asked about my own plans for the coming months. Well, really worried about something at the moment. What exactly ?. Just the Victory tour and if I can get good tickets for it. The look on their faces will be priceless.

There are people on both sides in my family. Not a big deal. I can't see anyone not showing up because of politics.

Now that you say that, that's the way it is in my family. Those that weren't for Trump are outspoken and the Trump supporters are generally quiet about it.
