I suspect it was.
From what I saw/read in classical Russian literature, Tzarist Russia was a hopeless case.

Yes, it was a tragedy in this sense.

( That's all I can say.) ( Of course it was all out of necessity, far away from any "idealization.")

Hmm. I remember, I read something about it.
Something about the Great October Socialist Revolution and the killing emperor and his family.
About the Red Terror and the six-year Civil War.
About defeat in the First World War and about the lost Finland, Poland and other territories.
About one million migrants, among whom there were more future Nobel laureates than scientists of the USSR received for all time.

Bolsheviks was excellent people, and they loved his country. Of course, they were not frostbitten (mad) fanatics.

Maxim... I think that he/she is talking about the FEBRUARY revolution and the Provisional Government ( which was not Bolshevik government of course,) - i.e. that initial revolution was not actually "Red."
( It's just my guess.)

Palace revolution against the background of the war (World War I). And everything fell into hell.

Yes I understand it. But they are not "the Saviors of the fatherland", as it may seem from the post of sharpeenko.

Exactly what do you think about the revolution Max?

From what I have read about Russia from about 1850 to WWI it was a miserable place to live. The people revolted because they had enough.

I tend to be real cynical about what I find written in the west.
