basically the more north you do, the worse the food.
An arguable statement. For example, many berries (cranberries, currants, raspberries, bilberries etc.) don't grow in Southern Europe or grow there in much lesser numbers than in Northern Europe.
to me France is the one that has the older, wider and best tradition of food in the western world. However other countries like Spain are waking up very quickly and in some aspects (molecular, avant-garde cuisine) are overpassing the Frenchs.
I will tell something on my experiencie about cooking cuisine international.

Sure, we have them all and more. Not in lesser number as there are farms, at least for cranberries and respberries.
For me it is really strange to read "cuisine of the X country", as if the food was the same all over the country. For example here in Italy the food changes a lot region by region (at least the traditional one, then there are some foods like pasta, ragù and pesto that nowadays have reached all the country).
Anyway, generally we are more into traditional food than modern avant-garde cuisine.
if you are interested in our regional foods, here there is an article about it Italian Food: A Gastronomical Tour of Italy | Made-In-Italy.com
it is really difficult to write an article about the food of all regions, so it is really likely that in the article there are some imprecision, but I think that it should still gives an idea of the situation.

The oldest and richest cuisine is the Chinese cuisine. French food is not the older and wider in Europe at all, but their royal court created "gastronomie" and "great cooks"...and when the royalty was guillotined, royal cooks founded "restaurants" (originally a soup) in every European country.
But the richest, most varied and unscathed food in all Europe is in Spain, precisely because common dishes has not gone though the hands of "Ferran Adria" and "Gastronomist".. an agression that has been suffering French food during the last 400 years.
Italian food only has two advantages over French and Spanish.
Their food is simpler and cheaper, at the reach of everybody.
Italians are very good as sellers, promoting their rather simple cuisine..and the use their immigration.
I find the Italian food tasty followed by French Cuisine but that is me.
