Anyway I hope Florida stays the same as it is. These social values make it better to live and raise kids in, people know right from wrong. Bash the social conservatives all you want, but all one has to do to see the disaster that the so called " progressives " have had on our culture is to simply look around. Take the recent Miley Cyrus incident as a prime example, that is the result of these liberal "progressives", and it's only going to get worse. The social conservatives are trying to keep our culture food, trying to make the world a better place. Can't just have this "do whatever you want "attitude that the "progressives " preach.

Furthermore you are living in the South. Not New York, not San Francisco, but the South. What were you expecting? We have a different way of life here, different values than you, and there's nothing wrong with it. Again I thought you "progressives " were supposed to be open minded and tolerant of other's beliefs? I've been out to California before which is the extreme opposite of my views, but did I care? No. As much as I disagreed with their politics, I still got along just fine with everyone there. I never told them that they were wrong or bad people for having different views than that of me. I never tried to push my views onto others or expect them to conform to mine, I practice tolerance, something that the OP and his "progressive" buddies are clearly lacking.

If it's going to bother you that much than just leave and go back up to Yankee Land, because we're not going to be what you want us to be.

Libertarians also preach a "do whatever you want attitude," because like progressives they are also interested in freedom rather than forcing people to behave in a certain way, for no valid reason.

Guess what, if you actually practiced tolerance and believed in freedom you'd have a "do whatever you want" attitude and would not worry that whatever Miley Cyrus is doing is somehow bringing down the nation. In fact, you'd be happy at the freedom Miley is exercising, to release lame music and put on awful shows. Further, if everybody wanted to start walking around acting out Miley moves, you'd be cool with all of the freedom that is going on, but you're not because you are not tolerant in any way.

What in the Sam Hill did this Miley Cyrus person do anyway that has everybody all up in arms? I watch some lame video on youtube of Miley at an award show dancing around. With the level of apparent outrage I expected to see her murdering an infant on stage or something similar, but no it was just Miley dancing around and singing some stupid song.

The fact that Miley dancing around draws more attention and outrage in the USA than the USA's daily dropping of bombs that kill innocent civilians shows we have some serious issues in the USA, and its not Miley dancing around.

They put on an excellent reenactment every year in Brooksville in fact. However, I was born in The Bronx.

LOL I am probably a purple haze myself lived most my adult life here but have strong yankee roots like you. Glad there is enough of that in this state to choose from that is not as tied to the deep south or the big very expensive NE cities. This IMHO is one of our great strengths we don't take advantage of. I don't know why so many think we all have to choose 'sides' and not cross that dreaded 'red' line... I find the self righteous liberal or conservative talk here and everywhere these days most annoying. Can't ever get away from this crap anymore it seems. What happened to Yankees vs Red Sox or Celtics v Lakers or my favorite band vs your favorite band? I find the CA v TX debates quite hilarious as well. So many narrow minded people arguing over semantics as there is lots of good in each of these states. Meanwhile the plutocrats keep fleecing all of us to no end. As the late Rodney King said 'why can't we all get along.' Anyone else agree?

It's interesting that those conservatives who want unbridled capitalism AND social conservatism are unaware of the incompatibility of the two. Markets have no morality and capitalism is the biggest destroyer of traditions. Real estate developers, pornographers, music and movie industry executives, chain restaurant owners, corporate farmers and other destroyers of tradition are capitalists. You have to take the bad capitalism does with the good.

People choose to ignore tradition; that's freedom at work. Freedom doesn't guarantee pleasant outcomes.

I know where you're from, I've been reading your postings for years now. I've been to New York city once, freakin' amazing place, but I'm more of an LA person.

Good luck getting an income tax. It's prohibited in the constitution fortunately by all means though, please make fl more liberal on social issues like gay marriage and medical marijuana.

LMAO at the assertion that Progressives are interested in freedom to "do whatever you want". Nothing could be further from the truth.

I am with you, FloridaPirate, I see other folks jump on you because you come too close to home with your post. The truth is "Yankees try to make Florida a new NE City. They will run Florida into the swamp just because they miss Boston or NY City.

While we are at let's define the new meaning of the hated term " Yankee". I have posted this before and go the wrath of God thrown at me.

Yankee, Some who come from the NE and try's to make the place they decide more like the mess they come from. 2 NE who complains about everything and does even life a finger to so much pick up a pop can in the street. But they will complain about.

Now if we are talking about Floridian's ,the new meaning is folks who come for a better life in Florida, and no matter where they come from they make a difference. No matter how small. Say good morning to our next door neighbor and hold the door for the lady who is struggling with her packages.

It worries me that the bad NE and upper Mid-west try to make people dependent on Gov. There is something wrong. To some degree its all ready spread here.

Pushing values, this country was based on Christian values. It erks me that when the GOD or the Jesus word is spoken there is such hostility. A good Christian will never push values, but more likely to display it in everyday life. Christians are the first to deliver their time and their money when needed.

I have not seen so much Progressives (Socialist) lift a finger for any one. Unless its socially fashionable.

So lets not make this forum something from a Soviet Propaganda film . I am with Pirate on this. If you an not stand the sight of us and this is such a horrible place to be go home to Chicago, Boston , Detroit or any other screwed up Northern State.
