I like Trader Joes, but the closest one to me is 15 miles away. AND I have much closer organic natural stores, that can more than rival them in prices and selection.

I like their nuts and dried fruit selections, bottled juice and frozen food selections. (egglant parm, precooked breaded eggplant slices, eggrolls, risotto, and pot stickers.)

I shop there but mostly when I'm in that area -- or just MUST have some pot stickers!

If I had one 15 miles away I would be thrilled. We lived in NM and drove about 40 miles to TJoes. No, it wasn't on our weekly shopping trip, but we would make a special trip about every few months and stock up. We do the same here with Sam's. it is about 20 miles away so we go every month to 6 weeks. it iaeingilb o i n oiour wee

We grow it here, but only in the very late sping into early fall and our last few summers have been so dry and hot, it has been a pain. I did get some nice leaves today from the Asian market, still not the wonderful as the T joes plants..

I did hear from our son in law today: he made the T joes stop but they do not carry the chocolate Macadanian nut cookies were completely sold out of mustard, and something else I wanted they didn't have...I never thought about asking him to pick up basil..

This is quite good, and its also easy to make at home.

I make mine with walnuts, but it would be just as easy with pecans - just take some cream cheese, let it soften, drop as much blue cheese in as you want, and then some chopped nuts, mix, and spread.

It is also good if you add some crushed pineapple, but as much as I and some others love to cook, it is so nice to occassionally have something to depend on when time is an issue or just when we are looking for something easy. The perfect example is this coming Monday, we are having a small dinner party. I am looking forward to Trader Joes dip instead of making one of my own..

Yes, that is what I was referring to also. Of course they are different stores - TJ offers all those specialty frozen items, and large selection of wines. But the cookies, candy, nuts, some cereals, pastas, even some of the frozen foods are very similar (like pizza and orange chicken) In fact, I thought ALDI pizzas are better, though these days I make my own.

All in all, I like TJ, but it is only a once a month or every two month shopping trip for me. I get most of my organics, and meat, chicken and fish from Super Target which is by far a great value with good prices.

The first item that I noticed was identical was the Triscuit knock-offs called "Woven Wheats."

Triscuits are $2.50/bx at Walmart. The Trader Joe's version is a bargain at $1.89. The Aldi version is $1.39.

I go to Aldi about twice a week, to Trader Joe's, once a quarter. The Midwestern TJs are well, underwhelming, very much unlike their counterparts in SoCal.

Never been to one in SoCal, never been to any other than the one they just opened here in Sarasota,FL; but yeah, ours is pretty underwhelming, especially considering all the other great shopping we have available here. Still, it's good for a once every two months trip for those "specialty" items. The TJs out west must be much larger and better than what we have here.

wow, I am really sorry you took offense at what I said, I was simply saying, there are times when it is just convenient to have these things around. I understand what you were saying and yes, most prepared things we sometimes buy can be made from scratch. I certainly didn't intend to upset you: I am not sure why you took it that way, but regardless, I do apologize.
