Its northern whether you like it or not.It is part of the Northeast on many occasions, politically, geographically, culturally,cl imate wise, even transportation railways like AMTRAK place it in the NORTHEASTERN REGION.

BosWash (also referred to as BoWash, BosNYwash, the Northeast Corridor, the BosWash Corridor, or simply the Northeast megalopolis) is a group of metropolitan areas in the northeastern United States, extending from Boston, Massachusetts, to Washington, D.C., including Manchester, New Hampshire; Worcester, Massachusetts; Springfield, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven and Stamford, Connecticut; New York City; Camden, Jersey City and Newark, New Jersey; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Wilmington, Delaware; and Baltimore, Maryland. The geographic trend was first identified in French geographer Jean Gottmann's book Megalopolis: The Urbanized Northeastern Seaboard of the United States (1961).

im just going by the census bureau because they labeled us as southern, even though we for the most part are not.

Read the history of the Mason Dixon Line. Its credibility was never really established. What is established is the credibility of the NORTHEASTERN CORRIDOR.Its northern regardless what you consider it.

They chose to go by the non-credible Mason Dixon, yet most consider it as what it is,A northern state.

Maryland does not strike me as being very culturally Southern. It's one of the most socially liberal states in the country for crying out loud.
