You think like a child, and I am serious, not joking. Take two tablespoons of "Grow-UP" 3 times a day for the next 5 years, Repeat.

Seriously, I think on a higher plane than you could ever imagine. That's why I always found school so boring...it was beneath me. I was correcting teachers' errors. They are supposed to know more than the students, aren't they? But they did not.

Then I reiterate my point. Americans are lazy because they THINK they are somehow entitled to a certain wage, and won't do a thing if they're not getting that wage. At least, that is true for the vast majority of them.

In fact I come in contact with more lazy people all the time. I teach at a college in the evening and so many students are lazy and will do the absolute minimum to pass. During the day I work as a manager at a very good company and we are constantly having trouble with lazy employees who lack creativity, skills and drive.

Do you believe that Americans of all ages are becoming lazy and are Americans still the hardest working people in the world?
Nooo ...

(Some) Americans are spoiled and not used to working hard - or smart -for some reason.

Some get little exercise, and therefore the blood doesn't flow to the brain and other parts of the body. The energy level is low due to lack of exercise. So here comes the lazy feeling.

Also, reading a book - a REAL book (not the "talking" one) may be virtually obsolete. Why read and get the brain flowing when a book can "talk" to one, and one doesn't have to think?

Additionally, there's more opportunity for sitting down and having something else do the "creative thinking". For example, sitting at the computer and surfing the 'Net. Resources on the 'Net do the "thinking" and "creating". All one has to do is type what they need, and up it pops on the 'Net - design and all. Sometimes there's no room for one's own creativity. Internet assistance is great - even vital. But it shouldn't be a substitute for human creative thinking.

Hard work is great if you have a discrete, attainable goal that is likely to raise your material standard of living and which might make it possible to reduce your workload in the future.

It's almost heretical to mention this, but some of the most successful people I've known in life were quite lazy. They were not hard workers at all. But they had certain advantages - for example, trust funds along with some degree of intelligence (money begets money rather easily), good "connections" (though family, school, etc. - the type of people who can park you in a good job where you don't have to stress yourself), luck (such as pairing up in college with a roomate whose software project was purchased by SAP AG), or excellent interpersonal skills/good looks (such as a girl I know who got a job marketing pharmaceutical drugs, and then yachts - interesting progression there).

Some people are mentally wired to get a lot of pleasure out of working hard, regardless of the particularities of the task. Most are not. So, for the majority of the people, working hard all the time would mostly result in a lot of mental suffering, and if that's what life is all about, that would be rather grim.

So I can hardly blame people for looking for better ways of leveraging labor and effort for money.
Excellent post.

And you see the picture 100% correctly.

Yea, but most of the people doing the jobs that you point out are not Americans.
