Did Mauldin Fine Foods own their site or was it leased? They opened in 1995. If they were on a 20-year lease that was not being renewed, I could see them closing.
Did that restaurant operate under a different name before 1995? Seems like you could get a cheeseburger plate there long before 1995.
Coal Fired Bistro closed for "remodeling". Never a good sign.

"Closed for remodeling" depends if the entity in question is actually remodeling and reopening for business, or the space being vacated is undergoing remodeling for the next tenant.
For example, Brown Street Jazz Club "closed for remodeling". Another tenant occupies its former space.
Re: Coal Fired Bistro, they posted on Facebook almost every single day previously without a mention of any pending remodeling. You would think if this was planned, they would have prepped people. It seems like a poor business plan to close and announce remodeling without alerting your customers ahead of time.
Coal Fire is reportedly gone. They had a printed note on front door thanking people and then it was taken off the door and now the signs out front on the street have been removed as well. Why would they do that if they were remodeling?

Facebook on 6/18: "This is not goodbye, Greenville! We're closing our doors for renovations. We thank you all for your support. Sorry for any inconvenience."
I knew when I posted my original thread here that Coal Fired as we knew it was gone . I actually liked the place and it leaves a void on its side of town. The food had improved with the arrival of Chef Gerard. Its sister restaurant Bacon Bros seems to be doing well. Maybe another restaurant is in the works but either way I'm sure that Gerard will end up somewhere.

Perhaps they're having a new sign put in? Changing their logo necessitating it?
I actually tend to concur with you.. None of the things mentioned here are good signs that the place will be coming back.
