Did you think this project would relive congestion on the Simpsonville exits? One has nothing to do with the other.
Exactly, but the solution remains elusive for our planners in the upstate. There seems to be no concern for the interchanges and how well they function at exits which are becoming increasingly gridlocked. In addition to the Simpsonville exits, Pelham and I-85, Roper Mountain and I-385, Woodruff and I-85, and Woodruff and I-385 are frequently gridlocked and all need to be converted to SPUI or diverging diamond to move traffic more efficiently.
Still a disaster trying to get off at any of the Simpsonville exits. There has to be something better than queing up on the interstate for 10 minutes.
You ain't seen nothing yet. There has been nearly 3000 new homes approved since 2018 between Mauldin and Simpsonville and this is not including all of the new multi-family apartment complexes. These homes are being built now or the land is being prepped for them.
Then there are multiple new subdivisions (and multi-family) still waiting for approval and I'm sure more down the road.
I don't see ANYTHING that DOT is planning to do to help your situation. Your best bet is to move.

They weren't a disaster to nearly this degree before they widened 385 at the interchange. Before it would be slow, but not backup onto the interstate unless there were multiple wrecks. Now that cars don't trickle through 385/85 split, they all get to Simpsonville's 3 exits at the same time, causing them to backup 20 cars deep onto the interstate.

House is sold, just staying with inlaws down the road until we can find something close to work/school downtown.
Is anything being done about that? Or can anything be done about it?
That Woodruff exit from 385-S to Woodruff is terrifying. I have to get off there 1-2x a week at rush hour and I've had 2 semis flying off the 85 part of the entrance slamming on their breaks right behind me to get off at Woodruff.
